Can someone give a simple explanation of banking and UY to me?

We bought BLT 250. We got 250 2011 pts with purchase. We have a Dec UY. We have to bank by Jul? When do those point become available to us? We will also get our 2012 pts in Dec? Very new and confused! Thanks so much!

yes - for the 2011 pts that are valid for stays from dec 1, 2011 through nov 30, 2012 (your "2011 use year"), you have to bank them by july 31, 2012 (which is 8 months into your UY) if you decide you want to use them for a stay in your 2012 use year. (after banking them, they will expire if not used for a stay by nov 30, 2013 - you cannot unbank them or bank them again.)

put aside any notions of calendar year. your use year starts on dec 1 and ends on nov 30 of the next year. most stays in year 20XX will actually be in your (20XX-1) use year.

When do those point become available to us?

you can book at 11 months out at your home resort. NOTHING to do with use year.

suppose you used all your pts and only had dec 2014 pts available. if you borrowed them one use year ahead into your 2013 UY, then they would be valid for stays from dec 1, 2013 through nov 30, 2014. then the earliest you could use your borrowed 2014 pts would be for a stay beginning on dec 1, 2013, which you could book at 11 months out on jan 2, 2013 (since member services would be closed on new years day).

We will also get our 2012 pts in Dec?

your 2012 pts are already there. as are your 2013 pts...and 2030 pts.

your limitations are:

1) you can only book 11 months ahead at your home resort, and

2) you can only bank or borrow to move pts one year ahead or back (and that is "final" - once you move them they cannot be moved again).

so if you want to book a stay for feb 2013, the first thing you do is calculate "what use year is that in for me?"

feb 2013 is in your 2012 UY (dec 2012 - nov 2013).

since you can bank or borrow 1 year ahead or back, you can also access banked pts from your 2011 UY or borrowed pts from your 2013 to make that reservation, if you have them. since you can ONLY bank or borrow 1 year ahead or back, you cannot use any banked 2010 pts or pts from your 2014 use year.

you can call in march 2012 to book feb 2013 at your home resort, or call in july 2012 to book whatever DVC resort is still available.
