I have heard about this and am a bit confused. Will this lights out experience happen every night for all guests? Will this cause lighter or heavier crowds in the last couple of hours at the park? Are there separate lines for the regular and dark experience?

I haven't been yet, but this is what I've gathered from others' reports. Yes, it's every night. I'm not sure about crowds, but with such a beloved ride closing/changing in the near future I would go in expecting high demand throughout the day. They close the regular line at a certain time and then allow people to start lining up for late checkout. I believe the ride closes for a time while they switch over so there isn't really any need for two simultaneous lines. While the ride is closed I think they have everyone line up for late checkout off to the side, and then lead them in when it opens.

From reports that I have read the crowd levels are high during the Late Checkout times.

The mood for us won't be quite the same when we go in December so we can ride ToT one last time seeing as they have already removed the sign:sad:

Crowds are definitely higher for late checkout. I did it twice this weekend, once Saturday and once Sunday. We got there between 6 and 6:30 both days. You line up at the Hyperion. Soon after that they let you into the TOT queue where you wait until it gets dark enough. Saturday we were off the ride by 7:15. Sunday I didn't look at the time, but it was about the same. It's a very fun experience, especially if you get an elevator of people that are really into it.

I rode it Saturday night and there were no fastpasses. I got there around 8pm or so, and the wait said 90 minutes. I really enjoyed it, though. I recommend if you do want to ride it try when it first starts or right before park close.

We did this as our very last ride this trip last night. Definitely higher crowds but also definitely lots of fun!

Last night we accidentally got to do the Late Check Out using an Open Fast Pass (got them when RSR broke down and were escorted behind the scenes). We had no idea it started before sunset so we were surprised when we just walked right up at 5:30, looking like the biggest goofballs when we asked if we could use the special Fast Passes. Dumb luck! Anyhow.... it was marginally interesting but not something I'd wait in a long line for since it wasn't gee-whiz amazing. The library was lit, as was the service/maintenance queue area. Only the ride was dark - you didn't see any of the animations or anything...just heard the narration. Really, it would have been much more interesting if CMs escorted guests by lanterns through the library and queue area. Ah well, I can at least say we did it. o_O

That's weird because this weekend they didn't start it until after 7.
