Can someone explain the Diamond Horseshoe Restaurant?

I don't know why the Diamond Horseshoe restaurant is not always open. I have been there several times many years ago but never as of late. Every time we go it is never open. Can someone explain why when MK needs sit down restaurants this is not open all year round? Do they use the building for something else when it is closed? It seems like a waste of real estate. Thanks!

I think it used to be open seasonally but it might be open for lunch/dinner now. I remember a show there when I was a kid. I don't think the show is performed anymore.

It was open over New Years but no show. I have it seen it closed many times in the past though.

The Diamond Horeshoe Revue was like the Be Our Guest of the 1970s. All the performances were full first thing in the morning. It was an entertaining Western saloon show similar to Disneyland' s Golden Horseshoe Revue.

It's not open because MK doesn't need it for typical capacity - I think they only have it open during very very busy times (christmas) because their regular restaurants can't handle the entire load. There is no such thing as "valuable real estate" at disney since they own their land outright - it is not costing them anything to keep it empty, but to staff it and open it when not many people are using it WOULD cost them a lot of money.

We went to Diamond Horseshoe Revue/Saloon in the early/late 80's. It was a great place to get a sandwich and cold drink and escape the summer heat, while enjoying a western saloon type show. It was always crowded and I was surprised when I heard that it had closed. Having never been to HDDR or Mickey's Backyard BBQ (but knowing they are quite popular), I have a hard time believing that something similar would not do well in MK. I agree with the OP, it seems like a waste to keep this beautiful building closed (for the better part of the year). I understand that a salon type show would be expensive, but it could still be used as a QS or TS restaurant, something this park could use...all year round!

I remember liking the show - I just don't know why they leave it closed.

Thank you for your post. It is a waste! Since our kids are in school we always go to DW when it is busy and if we change plans at the last minute and try to get an ADR at MK - we never can get one. I agree that it could be used for more TS dining.
:thanks:

Thank you but I do know that Disney owns all of the property. Whenever we go to DW (during Peak season) and we try to change the days that we are going to MK we can never get an ADR. That is what I meant by valuable real estate - it might not be costing them money but it could make them money and make it easier for guests to get ADRs.

in order for it to make money they are going to have to put money into something fantastic to go there that makes people want to go to it. I am pretty sure that except during peak days when EVERYTHING is booked, restaurants like Tony's or the Plaza are still pretty easy to get. Development of a fantastic restaurant concept requires big $$ and they just put it into a struggling skipper's canteen.

I think I remember the show too from ages ago and putting the show there would cost money too. I don't think they are going to spend the money unless they feel the need to do it to make more money. If I want to go to Tony's tonight I'd have to wait until 8:45 for an ADR but if I go tomorrow prime times right around 5-6pm are still available. They do not need another mediocre place to eat in the MK and developing anything better than "sharing a kitchen with Liberty tree only making the menu worse" which is what it seemed like they were doing during the peak seasons is going to take time and money.
