Ok...my daughter snd I were reading up about ollivanders...it sounds like from the reading a group of approx 25 go in...this is where we get confused. ..it sounds like only one person gets the wand to choose them...is this correct? If u dont get chosen in the large group do u still get to have a wand chose u? Thanks...I can see where some tears might be shed if we travel this far for this experience and only one person gets chosen.. ;-)

Maybe what I am trying to ask is this...if you dont get chosen is therr someone in the shop who will help you find your wand....like is there a special one based on birthdate etc? Or is it u choose one of the popular wands like harrys and move on?

Only one person gets chosen.Anyone can purchase a wand in the wand shop ( which is where the ollivander show room lets out into). But only one person gets picked per group let in

That's basically how the wand is "chosen" for the person getting to interact.

Once the show is done you all enter the shop and can buy whatever you want. You can buy a birthday-based wand or a character-based wand.

The ONLY thing that the person chosen gets is the experience of pointing wands at certain places that then *do* something predetermined. If they choose to (or if their parents choose), they get to buy the wand (or another) just like everyone else in that room.

So if we went up to a clerk after the little show...would they help her so to speak with the wand that is right for her?

all the TM's in the shop will help you and answer your questions about the wands and merch.

Once the little show is over in Olivanders, (Olivanders is fairly small) you are moved to the Owl Post and another shop, depending on what side of the room you are on. There you can ask a TM for help with a wand. They will ask your daughters birthday and that will be "her" wand. The wands that "chose you" so to speak" go by birthdays. If you don't want the one for your birthday then You will pick it out. Unless you are "the chosen one" for the show, you do not actually get your wand in Olivanders.

Thank you!!!!! This was the answer I was looking for!

You're welcome. The demonstration (as I call it) in Olivanders is very cute and it looks amazing inside. Also no flash photography. The TMs are very helpful in the other two stores as far as the wands go, and are around 32 dollars. Have a great time.

We were just there on the 20th and they picked both my son and daughter to so the wand ceremony... So sometimes they pick 2... Although it could be because they were siblings... :)

What's different between the wand shops? I'm sure my friend will insist on going to olivanders in London because that's where it's supposed to be. Lol

How are the wands there packaged? My son wants a wand for his birthday, and I love the packaging on these... however I would rather give him a "coupon" to get one at Ollivanders when we go in November. http://www.amazon.com/HARRY-POTTER-inch-collectable-WAND/dp/B000BVYQ9O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406052374&sr=8-2&keywords=harry+potter+wand

They come in the boxes just like the link above... They are the noble brand. Then they put the wand box into a shopping bag that is identical to all other shops.

The wands now are put in nice olivanders bags.

I would visit it in DA because there are multiple show rooms vs Hogsmeade.

We are planning to go January 9-13 for my son's birthday on January 12. Would it be an issue if he had the birthday button on and went to Ollivanders before his birthday? I know he'll never want to wait three days into our trip and will want to have time to use the wand around the parks, and he'll have a better chance of getting selected if he has the button on.

No one checks birth dates when you get a birthday pin, general time frame is OK for people who get a guilty feeling when it isn't exact. Only really lucky people can visit on their exact birthday. Also, the pin does not confer or entitle the wearer to anything more than a pleasant greeting when seen.

Also, many times two people are chosen for wand selection, usually siblings when the team members thinks it will be appropriate.

Its ok to wear the button, don't count on it getting him picked.HALF the people had them on when we went and they picked someone that didn't have one

Thanks for the advice. We won't go into it with specific expectations. :) We aren't planning to tell my son about the trip before we go so just being there is going to be really exciting.
