Can someone explain how adding on points works?

Haven't even made the first payment on our SSR DVC and hubby is talking about adding on points. Can you explain how this works?

Do you have to add points from your "home" or can you add points from another resort ?(dreaming about beach club and have a feeling that is all I will be doing)

What is the minimum you can purchase (I think 25 but I am not sure)?

You can add on at any resort. 25 points is the minimum if you are paying cash. 50 points is the minimum if you need Disney financing. All you have to do is call your Guide. Tell him/her what you want and they will either give you good news or have you go on a wait list. Since the BCV is your dream, the waitlist is the most likely outcome.

You can add on at any of the DVC resorts. Minimum purchase is 25 points if paying cash, 50 if you want to finance. The points must be the same Use Year as your original (Master) contract. The price is currently $92/pt for BCV, BWV, OKW and VWL. Disney was offering a $5/pt discount when adding on at HHI and VB making it $87/pt. Not sure if that discount is still available.

I don't know what the current price is to add on at SSR. I think it's $98 unless you purchase at least 120 points in which case I think you get an $8/pt discount (something along those lines anyway).

There are rumors of a price increase within the next couple of months at most if not all of the resorts.

Adding on at a different resort gives you two home resorts which is handy if you want to be able to make reservations 11 months out at more than one resort. Be aware though that you cannot combine points from different resorts at 11 months out. Only home resort points can be used to make reservations at that time. So if you have 150 SSR points and you add on 25 BCV points, at 11 months out you will have only 25 points to use at BCV. By banking and borrowing you could accumulate up to 75 points to use every 3 years.

Once you are inside the 7-month window you can combine whatever points you own to make a reservation at any DVC resort.
