Can someone explain DTD and how do we get there from the Poly?

I think the Rainforest Cafe looks like fun, but how do we get there from the Poly? And this is going to sound silly, but what exactly is DTD? A bunch of shops and restaurants? Do I have to pay to get in?

No, DTD is free to go to. Just walk out the front of the GCH house at the Poly and walk a little bit to your left to the busstop and wait for the DTD bus.

If returning later in the evening, remember that these buses seem to fill up quickly and are always crowded.

There's also another Rainforest Cafe right outside Animal Kingdom, so that's another option for you! :earsgirl:

Oh! That's good to know that there's one at the AK! Is it worth it for us to go to DTD? If not, I think I'd just stick to ease and go to the one at AK.

We think Downtown Disney is a lot of fun. DTD is actually divided into 3 main areas: DTD Marketplace, DTD Westside, and DTD Pleasure Island. Here are some general descriptions of the areas:

1) DTD Marketplace – this area has lots of shops and several restaurants (Rainforest Café being one of them). There is a HUGE store called World of Disney where you can get just about any souvenir imaginable. We love shopping there as well as many of the other stores (Disney Days of Christmas and Once Upon a Toy are also favorites of ours). It is free to get in here. It has a nice casual atmosphere, and we like going here especially when we need breaks from the hustle of the parks. We have found that the Marketplace tends to be less crowded during the day than it is at night.

2) DTD Westside – this area houses more restaurants, some quirkier shops, Virgin Megastore, and Cirque du Soleil. This is just my personal opinion, but it’s not that interesting. It is free to get in here as well.

3) DTD Pleasure Island – this area has several clubs and is designed for adults only. If you enjoy partying, then this could be fun for you. I don’t believe there is currently a cover charge to get in, but you might have to pay to enter the clubs, and I know for sure you have to pay for your drinks, LOL! :teeth:

Overall, we really enjoy DTD Marketplace. It’s a nice place to get away from the parks and still be somewhere with the Disney magic. Warning: this place can drain your wallet on all the cute souvenirs. :teeth:

We like walking around the different areas of DTD. Yes, people do think it is just another way to spend money, but we have been able to get through it almost with out spending any money (hey, what can I say, I am on vacation!! :goodvibes ) We enjoy the Westside and the marketplace. DH and I are not big Club people, so we have been often to PI, but it was nice the 2 times we went.

DTD is divided into 2 sections, the Market Placs and the West Side.
The Market Place, where the RainForest Cafe is located is nice, there are alot stores, a huge World of Disney store, restaurants and there is even a neat lego store, outside of the lego store are huge lego statutes. Its neat to walk along DTD.
As you go towards the West Side there are other restaurants, the House of Blues is there, Planet Hollywood, there are some smaller stores and the clubs are there (there is a charge to go into the clubs) and Cirque du Soleil is there as well as Disney Quest.

Is it worth it?!! LOL... Let's just say we have an entire day of our itinerary reserved for DTD ;-). So, IMO, definitely worth it!
