DD16 is going to a fall formal which is a kinda between a prom/homecoming dance. She is trying to decide if she wants a "nosegay" bouquet instead of a wrist corsage. But what do you do with the bouquet after pictures? Is she supposed to take it to dinner? We don't know the etiquitte.princess:

Back in the day when I went to proms, nosegays were the thing.
Frankly they were a pain.
You held them in the picture and then plopped them on the table for the rest of the night.

The thing with corsages is that depending on how they're constructed, they may pick your dress (be especially cautious with chiffon). For my little sister's senior prom, her date got her a corsage from a florist who had the bright idea to use VELCRO on the wrist strap! What were they thinking??? :sad2:

Nosegays weren't the thing where I'm from, so I have no idea what you do with them after photos, but I like the way they look as opposed to corsages for pictures.

Our girls only do the nosegay bouquets here for prom, and they have for the past few years. We do pictures of the kids and then the flowers are sent home with the parents in most cases before the prom of course. I think they look very sweet in the pictures. :flower3:

Nosegays were very popular in the 70's, I remember holding mine even while dancing. At dinner I just laid it on the corner of the table. Wrist corsages were easier, but I liked nosegays better.

My son went to prom last year, all the girls had wrist corsages. And for some reason all the guys take off their jackets and just wear the vest and shirt once there. (maybe they were hot, I don't know :))

I just got a memo from Hallmark. They are called Nose-funs now. :lmao:

In this area, wrist corsages are more popular, but to be honest I think they are often bulky and uncomfortable and may be plopped on the table during the dancing as well.

My DD went to two proms when she was a junior (her boyfriend went to a different HS than her). His florist recommended a wrist corsage for one and the nose gay for the other. DD definitely liked the nose gay better. It was "blingier" than the corsage, since the florist added a bunch of crystal things. The wrist corsage got a little scratchy by the end of the evening.

She simply placed the flowers on the table.

Perhaps you could actually talk to a florist to get an idea of the possibilities for both options?

OP here=Well, dd decided to go with the bouquet. She said she will probably take it to dinner and then leave it in the car( and hope they don't freeze) during the dance b/c they don't have enough seating so she may not get a table. She doesn't want someone to take them. Her dress is copper with dark gray tulle and a dark gray waist. He didn't ask her what color flowers she wanted. I hope he doesn't b/c I don't know what colors would match. Any ideas?

Can he get a swatch of the dress from his date? I've always just given a swatch to the florist and let them take it from there. If the flowers are hard to match, they can always do something that goes with everything and then accent in the dress color with ribbon, etc.

I agree - I used to work for a florist and copper w/dark gray is an unusual combination (sounds fabulous, though!). A swatch would be extremely helpful in "personalizing" the flowers, trim, etc. Just a snippet from a seam would work.

I'd love to see a photo of the dress!
