Can non-AAA members book AAA rate?

This may be a stupid question, but can you book at the AAA discount rate if you're not an AAA member? When we took a Disney cruise, I booked trip insurance through a company that let me buy an AAA plan even though I'm not a member.

Thanks!

You have to provide your AAA member number to get the rate booked to begin with, and/or provide your card at check in, so unless you're a member you can't book the rate.

I've booked the AAA rate without giving my number. Just get a membership before you go.

I've not checked in to a Disney resort with a AAA rate yet since I'm a new member (as of July), and my trip isn't until Oct. However, I've booked 3 different AAA reservations over the past month, and only 1 of the 3 CMs I spoke to while booking these reservations asked me for my membership number and expiration date. So it depends on who books your stay. So, as to whether or not you'll have to show a AAA card at check in, I'm sure it will just as likely depend on the CM who checks you in at your resort.

SO--I'd say it's better than a 50:50 chance that you could get away with booking a AAA discount without a AAA membership. But I have no idea what your odds will be at the front desk since I've not checked in as a AAA member yet.

I suppose the real questions are for you - Do you know how you'll respond IF they ask to see your card at check in? Would it be embarrassing or would you take it in stride? Only you can know how you'd really feel about this.

DZNYDreams-

I think my intentions are misunderstood. I would never try and book a special rate just hoping they wouldn't ask for verification that I am in a special group. When I booked the trip insurance I was clear that I was not an AAA member and that was not a problem, nor was it a problem for many others who booked trip insurance for the cruise.

I recently bought an AAA membership for my Mom and she ended up needing it in the first few weeks. I've been considering it for myself and think I will go ahead and do it. Never know when the car will break down on the way to WDW!

Thanks for all the responses!

I understand. I didn't intend to appear to be "preachy" or anything. Based on your original post, I was just trying to very thoroughly explain what I knew about booking a AAA rate through Disney and what the possible outcomes might be for someone who was able to book a AAA rate without a AAA membership.

So if are wondering if WDTC will just outright offer the AAA rate to you, the answer would definitely be - no way. They don't offer discounts - period. You must ask for discounts from Disney.

If you are wondering if you can ask for the AAA rate, but then plan to tell them upfront that you're not a AAA member, then I'd have to guess the answer would still be the same - no way. However, stranger things have happened (people getting PIN-only discounts without receiving postcards, etc.), so your guess is as good as mine.

Do you know if I can book at an AAA rate (with membership of course!) and then also get AP or other discounts on top of it?

By the way, if you don't mind, I was wondering where in NE Texas you're located. My Dad grew up in Brownsboro which is near Tyler.

I'm not DizneyDreams, but you can absolutely book a AAA rate and switch it to a better discount rate later.

Thanks SnackyStacky. Do you get the AAA discount on top of the AP discount or do you choose the best one?

Yes! You certainly can as long as there is availability. Many folks book AAA rates first and then apply the AP, general public, email, or postcard rate codes when they come out. I did this on a AAA-discounted WL reservation I had booked when the Sept general public rate code (AZZ) first came out. Of course, my dates have changed now, so I had to cancel that reservation. :( (That was a really GREAT rate!)

I live in Van, TX, which is not too far at all from Brownsboro. I've been there many times for high school football games when I was younger. I'd guess it's not more than 30 or 35 miles away from here. :) Tyler is where I do most of my shopping, so you've nailed my vicinity right on!

No. You get one discount rate, so in the words of the loyal knight in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: "Choose.....wisely..."

:teeth:

God - forgive me. I'm just procrastinating. There's a WHOLE mess 'a cleanin' downstairs with my name on it. I've tried to take my name off, but oy.....

I'm not SnackyStacky ;), but you choose the best one, which would be AP.

Jinx, Dreams! You owe me a night in a Disney resort of my choice!

I wish I could grant that for you SnackyStacky! I'm in a good enough mood today that I'd probably do it if I just had the money! :)

Diane-

Wow, it's a small world! My grandmother was born in Van Zandt Co. then moved to Henderson Co. when she was a young girl. I have many ancestors buried in the Edom Cemetery and Redbird Hill Cemetery (I think that's right).

Sorry to get off the subject. Off to buy my AAA membership now!

I joined AAA over the internet and received temporary membership cards. Then I called CRO and was able to change my reservation to an AAA rate with a savings of $114.68! That's a relatively small savings but it more than paid for the membership itself. Also, the CM did ask for my membership number.

Thanks everyone!
