Can my DD use an old Magic Band?

My DD is going with her band and wants to use her old Magic Band. She is listed as our family member in MDE from this summer's trip and used her special Olaf Magic Band. She will have a new ticket to link tomorrow, but has opened her own MDE account with her friends so they can all get fast passes together. Is there anyway she can use her old Magic Band without going to guest services? Can her friend use one of DD old bands? Would we be better to add all her friends to our MDE account? DH and I will be going as well, but have a different itinerary as we are not chaperoning and have different length of tickets. Thanks for any help I can get. I know this is a little complicated question.

I'm not sure on the MDE aspect, but i actually just had to address the magic band issue when my DH and I went to see the Osborne Festival of Lights a few weeks ago. I had made the assumption that since DH and I were on the same account and had gotten tickets at the same time in the past that our old magic bands were exchangeable. He ended up using one of my old ones and I used a speciality band I had used in the past. I didnt have any issues getting into the park, but my DH was unable to get through the entrance fingerprint scan. We ended up having to go to guest services where he had to get set up with a new magic band. Disney explained that once a magic band has a fingerprint attached to it only that person can use the band at the entrance gates. Disney was very nice about it honestly even though the mistake ended up being mine. They even gave us a fastpass for one ride for the time it took to clear up the confusion. My DH was very impressed by their high level of customer service.

So to answer your question your DD should be able to use her old Olaf band but her friend wouldnt be able to enter the park with an old band of your DD's. Hope that helps!

Sequoia is correct. Your Dr can use her old MBs, but her friends cannot, since there is a finger scan associated with those bands.

Once inside the parks you can borrow someone's MB to use one of their FPs, though. This is perhaps where the PP and her DH got confused about using someone else's MB.

This exactly. :thumbsup2

Just make sure that the Olaf band is still active on her MDE account.

Any MB can be reused by the person it was assigned to. But it cannot be used by anyone else, as it cannot be removed from MDX and reassigned. Disney provided a way for the user to deactivate the band, but not to delete it from their account. Each band is assigned to a specific person, so even if they are on the same account the bands can't be traded and still access anything assigned to anyone except the original user.

If they want to use the original user's MDX account, then they can trade bands. This works only for using someone else's fastpasses, not for park entry (park entry also requires a finger scan) or for using fastpasses that were made under the name of the new user. For example if "Jane" trades a band to "Katie," then Katie can use any FPs that were booked in Jane's name. She can't use Jane's band to enter a park, or use that band to redeem any fastpasses booked under Katie's own name.

One other issue, can the YES ticket she is most likely getting be added to an MDE account?

Band Youth trips are a totally different animal. I'm surprised she will be getting her ticket early. Some if not most hand them out the first day of the trip.

The other potential issue I see here is that it looks like you are talking about your DD starting a new MDX account. So then she will be in two different accounts. You will need to call and have the accounts linked so that she is recognized in both accounts as the same person.

We just went through this with my DD. She has always been on my account, but she is going in Feb and is assigned to a room with my mom and a separate reservation from me. Her name was listed but it did not realize that she was the same person until I called. Now when we go into my mom's account we can see her and her tickets/bands.

ETA: I hope that makes sense, basically without linking, MDX will just have her as two separate people that happen to have the same name.
