can I waitlist without making a reservation?

I am staying at BLT in Feb for 6 nights in a 2 bedroom, my parents just told me they will be in Fla during our stay and I wanted to try to get them a studio for 2 or 3 nights at BLT my question is if a studio is not available can I wait list it without having something booked since we do not want them to stay anywhere else and if the WL does not come through we will have them stay with us in the 2 bedroom. Has anyone done this before?
