Ok, what I want to know, does anyone plan on having Disney get their bags as if they were using the magical express, but are actually renting a car?? I hope this makes sense. Thanks :confused3

I specifically asked this question and was told that this is not allowed. When I made my ressie they asked if I wanted Magic Express. I asked if I could send my bags via magic express and still rent a car. The answer was "no, that isn't allowed"

Sounds like they are going to match things up and if you don't get on the bus your luggage just goes round and round ....

I asked the same question last week and MS told me "yes", bags would be delivered to our room. Hope I was not given wrong information.

I can't imagine how they would possibly know if you were or weren't on a bus. How could they pick YOUR bags out of the whole pile with special WDW tags and hold them if your name wasn't chekced off of a list where the motor coaches are? It sure sounds like the baggage transfer is entirely separate, but I could very well be wrong. Will be interesting to see how people use the system once it is up and running.

I originally booked a rental car out of MCO before I booked the room and ME, but I've altered the booking to pick up a car by DTD the next morning.

I sure hope I remember to cancel all the double ressies I've had to make in the name of contigency.... sheeesh

This is how I envision it working:

They take your specially tagged bags and put them under the bus. A rep then stands at the bus with a checklist - since they know who is supposed to be on the bus - and while people board they're checked off. If someone isn't on the bus they do a quick check to make sure their flight isn't late, perhaps do some kind of check to make sure they were on the flight (not sure how given the privacy these days) and then if they verify that the passengers were on the flight but aren't on the bus they go through the luggage to make sure it's not there.

Another option is that they have a similar checklist with names for the baggage, so that your name is checked off when your bags are loaded. If your bags are there and you aren't, your bags get unloaded.

Frankly it's a huge security risk to have bags without people. That's why airlines won't let you intentionally send your bags on a different flight that you're one.

And while I know that no one *here* would do anything so vile or horrendous, please remember that there are such people in the world that would pick something like a bus full of families heading off to a world-famous resort as a target for something horrid. Allowing unaccompanied luggage only opens the door wider for such things. So while having to transport your luggage in your rental car may be a bit of a hassle, it's for the safety and security of the folks on the bus.

I heard that the luggage part is totally seperate...it does not go on the same bus as you...because isn't that the purpose of ME...to eliminate you having to sit there and wait for your luggage???

I heard also that the luggage would not arrive at the same time as you at the resort but alittle later during the day.

The ME service would then get the guests off to their resorts much more quickly than having to wait for all the luggage to be loaded.

Right, so how would they know if you were actually taking the ME then??? <before I get flamed for "cheating" Disney, I AM actually taking ME... ;) >

I thought that you can send your luggage ahead on the RETURN trip as long as you were on their affiliated airlines such as AA. But you don't have to ride their bus to the airport.

Please let me know if I am incorrect about this.

Thanks,
MMCD

It is easy. You get off the plane, go immediately to ME and check-in. At that time they then look for your luggage and deliver it later to the resort.

If you do not check-in w/ ME, they do not go look for your luggage.

I don't think I'd call it "cheating" if all you're doing is using part of a free service.

Disney already said if your luggage arrived on your scheduled flight but you didn't take the flight, probably an overbooking situation, they would keep your luggage at the airport until you arrive at MCO. Sounds like they're not going to ship the luggage to the resort until you check in with the Disney rep at the airport. Makes some sense. If you get bumped and cancel your trip you luggage would have to be given to your airline to be shipped back.

People looking for a "loophole" could either split the group, some take the rental and some ME or possible check in but not board the bus.

Since Disney has already said this is not a luggage transfer service, I think people need to just realize that. That is the official word. But, there is that 'official' word about refill. mugs also. So, if you feel you want to try to twist it around so that you can get free luggage transfer and still rent a car, fine. But it seems that Disney is trying this out in order to make it more appealing for people to NOT rent cars. It would make sense that they would be able to track who has luggage but is not at the 'bus stop'. I would think that they would then just keep the luggage until the owners checked in at the 'bus stop'. Otherwise it could be looked upon as 'unattended luggage' and we all know how airports feel about that!!!

If you are renting a car, doesn't it take a little while for you to get the car? Wouldn't it make sense to have someone get the car while others waiting for your luggage at the claim area?

Q: Can a VIP utilizing private transportation take advantage of the luggage handling service of Disney's Magical Express?

A: No. The complimentary luggage handling is only available for those Guests using the Disney's Magical Express motor coach transportation.

All bags with Magical Express tags will be pulled "behind the scenes" before they ever get to a baggage claim area. They'll go to a new baggage sorting facility within Orlando International Airport. Your bags will be released from the sorting facility at the airport onto a luggage truck to WDW after you check in for your coach. My guess is that you'll check in as you step onto your coach.

I'm sure everything will be highly computerized because that's the only way to keep costs down and to track the guests and the luggage. Some folks on this board seem to envision an army of Disney reps with clipboards and pencils running back and forth. I'm expecting drivers with wireless PDAs and baggage handlers with barcode scanners -- and a computer system that keeps track of the status of everything. There will be Disney reps on the ground, but they'll be there to direct the guests to the right coach and to answer questions.

It remains to be seen how Disney handles situations where the luggage remains at the airport because the guests bypassed the coach service. In any case, I'm sure Disney will make it unattractive for guests to try to stick Disney with the substantial costs of the luggage transfers, without using the coach transportation.

Yes, that is correct for the return trip.

Q: Do Guests have to ride the Disney's Magical Express motor coach back to the airport in order to participate in the Resort Airline Check-in?

A: No. After utilizing the Resort Airline Check-in, Guests can either take advantage of the complimentary Disney's Magical Express motor coach transportation to the airport or they can arrange their own private transportation. Their checked luggage will be transported to the airport regardless of which transportation option they choose.

This little exchange states the policy, it says nothing about enforcement, nothing about bags not being sent until you check-in/get on the bus. In a few short weeks we'll see the mechanics of it and we'll soon know if it's possible to get half of the benefits if that's all we want.

Where will Guests' luggage go if they miss a flight?

A: If Guests check luggage in time for their regularly scheduled flight, their bags are likely to make it to Orlando International Airport as scheduled, even if they miss the flight. Disney representatives will pull the bags and wait for the Guests to arrive before forwarding the luggage to their Resort.
THE ONLY WAY DISNEY WOULD KNOW IF YOU MISSED YOUR FLIGHT is if you didn't check in for ME. They must be planning to match luggage against the list of pax who check in for ME.

Bill--We don't know what would happen if you called Disney and said you got a ride please send over my luggage.

cra-z-4-dizney I read your post this answers your question. Disney has to be cross referencing the list of guest who check in with ME when the send out the luggage.

If I were Disney.... I would not transport your luggage unless you get on my bus LOL! The whole point of this is to entice you to stay on Disney property and with a car you are not so enticed. So....we will see. It may be that they collect your claim checks from you as you get on the bus... no claim checks equals no pick up?

On the return, the difference probably is that the participating airlines are paying part of the bill to transport your luggage so they don't care!
