Hi all,

I keep reading conflicting information about needing a SunPass or not. Can someone confirm for me that if I take the 417 to Exit 6 to WDW that I can pay the two $1.50 tolls with cash? Does it have to be all quarters?

I want to figure this out before the car rental company tries to weasel us into paying more for a SunPass "rental". Thanks! :thumbsup2

You definitely don't need a Sun Pass. However, you might want to bring a few quarters, just in case. I think you're fine with Exit 6 - there are two tolls and I believe they are both manned so that you can pay with cash. However, I do remember DH & I once ended up at an unmanned toll that required exact change (in coins). We didn't have any change, so we drove through. I think that was Exit 3, though.

Yes, you can use cash. The last two times I've been, we rented a car through Orlando International Airport, used the toll roads to get to our destination and used cash.:)

The 2 tolls between MCO and exit 6 have manned booths, you don't have to use quarters.

Exactly! No need to pack a roll of quarters, the toll taker will make change. Also, be sure to ask for a receipt. Keep it around just in case the rental company tries to claim that you drove through the automated toll lanes. :car:

If you are very very sure you won't go anywhere else, no need for change. But if you think you might end up going somewhere unexpected, it doesn't hurt to have some with you.

On our first trip DH went to Publix and his really bad GPS got him on a toll road (I still don't know how) that was unmanned and he had no change. They did have envelopes there to mail in the toll, so we made sure that was done before our trip was done. And another time we had some sort of electronics problem during our trip (DH gets to take good vacations, but also has to be connected for work and something went wrong with something of his) and we ended up at Best Buy. We went through an unmanned toll for that trip, too. It's good to have some change on you, just in case.

In the last eight months we've used both the north and the south exits and used quarters each time for the tolls. I just fill a mini m&m container with quarters to keep in the glove box. Like Bumbershoot, there's been a few times my GPS got us on a toll road going to Publix (and somewhere else once), so we needed extra quarters and was glad to have the m&m container already full, so we didn't have to dig for coins. We just refill it with quarters after each trip and keep it with our Disney stuff.
