Can I use a small microwave in our room?

I have a toaster in my owners locker and use it every trip. It sits on the table in our room and the mousekeeper is in there every day -- never said anything about it. We've had it for the last 4-5 trips and no one has told us we can use it.

Trust me -- if you stay in Trinidad South it's a good 15 minute walk to the main building where the microwave is. I will have my toaster there every time.......... we toast bagels each morning for breakfast and eat them with peanut butter or jelly.

The official answer seems to be whatever you are told by the person who gets your email. I wrote and posted here one time, expecting to come back to say..nope, you can't. I was very surprised that I was told it was ok (another person wrote and got no response, so you may not hear back). I was told to please unplug any appliances and do not leave food cooking when out of the room. I asked about electric appliances, not a certain one that I can remember. I would prefer not smelling food cooking, but we are in a hotel room right now that has a fridge and micro, and it doessn't seem to be built any differently from All Stars. I don't smell anyone's food. We had one person using their George Forman grill right outside their (and our) door at Music. They were running an entension cord. No one seemed to care. We had to hurry and close our door as we went in and out since the sausage was smokey.
Best all around IMO, is to use the micro's in the cafeteria. Much easier to cook your food and have a place to sit.

The official answer is no heating appliances, toasters, coffee pots, microwaves etc in rooms that do not have electrical with safety shut-offs to support them.

You'll get a variety of answers. But that's the official answer.

No, but the electric outlets in the room could very well be wired differently ... inline GFCI's and/or higher amperage fuses, or other safety features.

No one will know if you bring a microwave. Would be a good way to save money. However, a crockpot, george forman, etc. would be a bad idea.

Okay, I've got a (true) experience about almost everything.

Now, I know this isn't going to happen at Walt Disney World - at least I think/hope it's not. But for the people advocating "bring it, use it, nobody will know..."

Several years ago, I worked in the office of a long, low building - three floors of offices in the front, three-story-high warehouse behind it, one-story breakroom/vending area/pool (don't ask!) to the right of the warehouse...

It snowed. A lot. This is Massachusetts. Snow happens. About 2:30, this disgusting, nauseating odor permeated the entire building. It's about 250' x 1000'.

Turns out, the Maintenance team had been shoveling snow all day. The supervisors socks got wet... so he decided to dry them in the microwave

PLEASE don't think the smell won't travel.

If anyone is familiar with Wisconsin Dells hotels(not Disney property mind you), most have a mini refrig and a small microwave in the rooms, right next to the dresser across from beds. So most guests that travel could heat up food items. It is a nice feature.

When we went to disney spring break of 09', we brought our coleman cooler with the ac adapter, so it would keep our food items cold. I asked at check in at all star movies and was told it was okay to use. It ran 24 hours a day. I didn't bring any other appliances with us.

I would think that many hotels not just disney property, have encountered plugged in, turned on curling irons and such that would be just as much of a fire risk, which would make we wonder if mousekeeping would just unplug them. I complain to my boys that their laptap when plugged in to charge, leaves quite a warm spot on my dining room table.

I think I would rather smell sausages being cooked in the room next door, than have the screaming couple yelling constantly(or slamming doors all night-yes this is who we got stuck by last spring break), or stand next in line to someone that drenched themselves in perfume(cologne), or in need of a little deoderant

okay....i am guilty of bringing a crockpot last trip...

no I did not leave pot roast to cook all dayin it! but we did heat up some queso one night and made chilidogs another....I was in the room with it the whole time while my kids we out swimming with my dh...for people on a budget it was a way to save money but also break up the monotony of the dsiney park food!

but i would never leave something to cook al day unattended...i would be scared something would happen plus i know it would smell and might bother others...

p.s. confession #2...a few years ago we brought our waffle iron and made waffels a few times...they were delicious! we did unplug and make sure it cooled off before we left though...

am i a bad person? lol

I would think the answer is no since Disney's FAQ section on the website says no food that requires heating thus eliminating the reason for a microwave.

not to be outdone by a 'btdt' story...

we had toasters and microwaves supplied by management in my office. One day, I had 'FIRE' and looked round the corner to see the orange glow of flames dancing on the wall by the 'break' area. Toaster fire.

I think I'll leave the cooking to the people who get paid by Disney to do it. And,yes, very little stinks as bad as burnt popcorn.

You are not a bad person, but if you want to cook on vacation you should really rent a villa that comes with a kitchen. It is too easy for people to burn food in their room and that smell would spread to the rooms next door. Plus, while you may be careful with your waffle iron, Joe Blow next door may not be so careful.

Well, some of us will do whatever it takes to do Disney as cheaply as possible! That's the only reason I'm bringing breakfast foods and will be packing our lunches. I don't care how small the room is, we won't be there very much!

If the goal is to do Disney as cheaply as possible, then why stay on site? It would be cheaper to to book an off site suite.

I think it's a matter of "this is what I want to do and don't care how it impact others".

No. If you read my replies you will see that I learned there is a microwave in the food courts and that will be good enough for me. I wasn't saying I was going to do whatever the hell I wanted, I was wondering if there was a rule. And apparently there isn't because some people have used them without issue.

How I choose to do my trip on a budget isn't really the question here. Staying on site for my kids first ever disney world week isn't up for debate. We are. And we will be eating mostly refrigerated sandwiches and the like since cooking in the room isn't going to be possible.

See, I do care how I impact others.
