Can I upgrade to AP and get a discount?

Thanks for all of your responses!
Just for anyone planning and reading, I did upgrade to AP (they go up in price this weekend so I bought now). I decided not to change rooms. But just wanted to report that my fastpasses were fine. I was told that I had to link my APs before 11:00pm that night in order to not have my FPs drop. I did, and there were no issues.

Even though you chose to not use the AP to get an AP rate room, don’t forget to ask about AP discounts whenever you make purchases on property. You’ll need everyone present with ID at guest services to activate, BTW. :)

Thanks! Do I have to go to “city hall” for this? I just assumed it would be linked to our magic bands. Since we are leaving in 13 days, I assumed we wouldn’t have cards mailed to us.

No, “city hall” is inside MK & you’ll activate before you go through the entry turnstiles. Guest services is located in a little building on the way to the entry turnstiles at each park. On your first park day just head over to the guest services counter for that park before you enter and they’ll activate the APs and give you your AP cards. You can also activate them at DTD, I believe. Allow a bit of time for the line.

Thank you! I would have completely overlooked that! I just assumed everything would be on my magic bands.
