Can I upgrade my reservation using transferred points?

Hi

I have a 1 BR in SSR that needs to be upgraded to a 2 BR -Sept21 trip... the reservation was made with AKV points.

Do I have to find a transfer from the same home resort/UY so that I can combine the points for the upgrade? Can I do this online?

Or I could get the points from any other owner (any resort/uy) and call MS for them to do the upgrade?

Any other option?

You do not need to get a transfer which is the same resort or UY as your home resort.

The owner of the points would need to call MS to do the transfer. Once transferred, you will see them in your account as another contract with the UY and resort that is native to the transferred points. IOW, if you transferred OKW Dec UY points into your AKV account, you would see OKW points in your membership and those points would have an expiration date of November 30.

Once those points are in your account, you can actually use them online to book your additional night. But if you would feel more comfortable about it, you can have MS do it.

For transferred points to use in such a change, you would need to get 2021 points from a use year that is Sep or earlier, or 2020 points points from a Oct or Dec use year. You would not, however, need to get the same use year as the one you own. And the transfer can be from any DVC resort because original reservation was made in the 7-month window.

Since you are upgrading, when you do the change doesn’t matter. If you were changing the trip to something smaller or to one that uses less points, you’d want to make sure to do it at least 31 days in advance to avoid any holding points.
