Can I upgrade a regular price DLR AP to a DVC DLR AP?

So this price increase has my brain spinning...

If I buy a DLR DAP online today (DVC discount price is proving elusive today) at the regular price, can I upgrade to a DLR PAP on Friday when we are there, and then would I pay the difference between the online price today, or the current price on Friday?

Help :sad2:!

Unless it has changed and not been announced yet, the DVC discount at DL is $20 off either the DAP or PAP.

If you buy a DAP online (no DVC disocunt), you cna upgrade to the PAP with DVC discount, but you will pay the difference between what you paid today ($329) and the new PAP price minus DVC discount ($499-$20 = $479), or a total of $150. In all between todya and next week, you will pay $479.

If you buy the PAP today, you will pay $459, so even without the DVC discount, you save. Best of luck -- Suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

Thanks for confirming what I thought, sadly :sad1:, that is cheaper to buy a PAP today at $459 than to buy a DAP today and upgrade to a PAP with the $20 off. The CM from Disneyland Ticketing was very rude and told me that I could not upgrade and get my $20 discount, so she was just plain rude and wrong. Sadly, the $20 discount is not worth spending more on Friday, so today must be the day to buy the PAP. I need it for a one night hotel discount, and will use it again next June, but I could just cancel the hotel and cut our trip short. SO confused and my brain hurts :headache:.

I am also having to buy 4 WDW Park Hoppers No expiry tickets before the price increase, which is over $2100 just for those tickets. So today is a sad, sad day for my credit card

You are 100% certain you need the premium? There are blockout dates in your planned days?

Just trying to help you make sure you aren't paying for more than you need. :)

Yes, sadly we will be there starting Friday through Monday. Saturday is a blockout day, so I would need the Premium if we were to buy an AP at all.

My choices are:

Not buy any AP and cancel the AP rate room at the GCH and book a non-AP rate room for more $$

Cancel the third night and just come home early, or stay somewhere completely different (San Diego?)

Buy an AP today for $459 online.

The original plan was to upgrade the Costco hoppers I have now to a DAP on Saturday, which is a blockout day, but I could still use it. Then I was going to upgrade the DAP to a Premier at WDW in November. But I am throwing that plan out the window due to the significant price increase.

I'm in the same boat. We were going to try to but 8 day hoppers at DLR for our fall trip since we're going to WDW in 2012, but they can't sell us those at today's prices, it would be at the new prices when we picked it up. So I said, okay I want a Deluxe AP since we travel during non-blackout days and its only slightly more than an 8-day hopper will be if I lock in the price today (btw you can buy a blackout day for $50 so if there's only one during your trip the Deluxe AP might work out better than the premium). Ticketing can't sell me an AP voucher, one has to do it online. Online ticketing has no place to put in a discount?? MS can't help with DLR AP's, only WDW. So now I'm spinning between I can buy an AP with no discount now, hope against logic that they might give me a discount when we go to pick it up ... or just swallow the price increase. Blech. The most annoying part is we were there 2 weeks ago and could have bought new vouchers then if we'd known about the price increase but we wanted it to start this fall rather than in May if we bought at all ...
Just wanted to say I feel your pain since it looks like we'll just be buying a Deluxe AP with no DVC discount thanks to the way Disney sells tickets. Eesh. Honestly I don't mind paying premium for Disney tickets since I think its a premium experience I just wish they wouldn't make it so difficult to hand your money over with the discounts one should be entitled to ....

Doesn't sound like it helps either of your situations, but the blockouts do not apply to the day the pass is purchased for any level AP. So if you can start your trip on the day you are blocked, you could buy your pass on that day to get around at least one blockout.

I have sort of accepted the fact that there is no way to get the discount. I probably will never be able to buy a DLR AP with a DVC discount because I will have to be there in person and apparently there are no vouchers and they become active right away? My only chance would be maybe in June 2012 when the prices will go up again right before we get there.

Are there any DVC discounts on renewals at DLR? If I buy this PAP today for $459, I will need to renew in June 2012 for our 2012/2013 trips. Or, I could let it expire and buy another one in December 2012?

Head spinning...time to give up...very flustered...:headache:

Nope found out last year you could get either the renewal or the DVC discount but not both. Which is one reason why I've been staggering mine a bit ... getting 2-3 trips out of one, let it lapse for 6 months, then starting a new one ... unfortunately didn't want to get one this year since we're WDW-ing 14 months after but :confused3 I need my Disney fix.

More bad news The blockout price will increase to $59 tomorrow. --Suzanne

Wow that's crazy. I just got my "Backstage Pass" in the mail from DLR day before yesterday from my AP that recently expired, and it said they were having a special on 1-day hoppers if you show your AP for $50... not sure how long the promo lasted though, it was mainly to advertise summer/holiday DLR features.
I thought that was expensive since last time I bought a blackout day ... about a year and a half ago it was $45.
