Wondering if I can take my DL ticket that I bought as part of pkg. and upgrade to AP once I'm there. I'll be one using ticket entire time so not cheating system in that sense.

yep, thats what i did. just be advised that if your package included a discount ticket you will only get credit for the value price and not the full price.

for example if your ticket was a discount 3 day park hopper that only costed 260 then you will get only 260 credit for it and not the 295 that a full price ticket would cost. you may not know if your ticket is a discounted ticket or not (you may only know the cost of your package for instance) but they know when they scan it when you go to upgrade.

Also its best to upgrade your ticket on your last day in the parks so that if there are any blockout days as part of the AP your getting they don't effect you.

That's strange. I got the full value of my discounted ticket when I upgraded 2 years ago. But I bought mine through an outside company so maybe they just didn't realize it was discounted? It was a buy 3 days get a 4th free, and I got the full value of a 4 day ticket toward the price of my AP.

I have no clue if my ticket is discounted. I booked a pkg deal thru Costco. The blackout dates will not affect my trip so I'll upgrade ASAP because the discounts on food, shopping will help, plus Photopass.

I would use the ticket first before upgrading, just on the off chance they are able to bridge to the non discounted price (if applicable). Definitely do it your first day after entry though, so you can take full advantage of discounts.

I'll use first that isn't issue, I just want to save some moola and get "free" photopass pictures

In general Disneyland does not "bridge" the price. In general you will have your cost applied to the price of the passs that you are upgrading to.

Once in awhile you will get lucky and they apply the full cost and they will also on occasion not back date the expiration to the first day you use the pass you are upgrading. Just don't count on either of these things.

I'm fine with the no bridge but they better date my Ap from first date I used ticket not date I reserved pkg.

No.. What I meant was the if you upgrade day 3 of your pass, on occasion they will date it the day you upgrade not the first day you used it.

My daughter's friend is going to by an AP, but the AP she is buying is blocked for this Saturday. She will have a three day park hopper, and Saturday will be the last day they are going into the parks. Can she upgrade during the day and still have access to the parks or will she be blocked as soon as she upgrades (if she leaves)?

She just needs to wait until the last day to upgrade and request a block out pass. They will give her a printed out pass that she will need to present with her AP each time she enters a park that day.

We just did that in March. We went mid-day when there were no lines at the ticket windows and it was a quick process. We had purchased our tickets through an employer discount site, but they did not care about that. Just applied what would be the cost of a full price ticket to our annual pass fee.

Thanks. I will let her know.

My money's on the ticket being bridged. I don't know if policy has changed or maybe there never was a no-bridging policy and computers just got reprogrammed. But while there's no guarantee, both reports here and my own experiences the last couple years, they are generally bridging tickets.

We never renew our AP's. We get discounted tickets or a package, whatever best suits our needs that year, then convert after using the tickets for entry. The last 3 years the tickets have been purchased through 3 different third party authorized sellers - and bridged without request each time. So while I agree that you can't for sure count on it, I do think it's the norm and maybe there's not actually a no-bridging policy.

Forgive my ignorance but what does it mean "bridging"? I'm thinking f getting an AP upgrade but have never done it. Is this AP also good at WDW??

Bridging would be crediting the full current gate value of the ticket you are upgrading, regardless of what you paid for it.

when I upgraded in March I was credited only my discounted cost and not the full price ticket value so for sure don't count on it. Also my pass is dated to expire the first day I used my 3 day hopper and this has been the case each of the 3 times I have upgraded a ticket to an AP so I'd say it is pretty common for them to not bridge it and that those who get that should consider it pixie dust.

We are staying on site at PPH so do I need to use MM before upgrade?

No, your on-site stay will qualify you for daily MM regardless of ticket type.

If you do want to see though if they will be bridging your ticket, you do need to use your ticket for a park entrance once. No park entrance I think they definitely will not bridge, with entrance you definitely stand a chance.
