We are going to WDW in May and I was wondering can I swap my UPH tickets for 4 days in and buy an Annual pass?
If so, how does this work?

All I can tell you is that I did it years ago. I was told that it must be done at a guest services at WDW. But you know things change around there. :D I just bet you still can.

Guest Services @ your hotel or at the Parks?

Again, this was years ago, but only at the parks guest services. And I doubt if it changed, because I think they can only issue APs at the parks.

Enjoy your AP! I wish I was going enough this year to make one worth it!

APs can only be sold at the Guest Relations windows at the parks. Also, ticket upgrades can only be done by these folks.

In general: you can take any valid park ticket or park hopper that you purchased from Disney (but not annual or seasonal tickets, and not the special tickets available from brokers, and not comp or promotional tickets), and Disney will take the actual price you paid for the unused portion of the ticket and apply it toward the bigger ticket or pass.

If you do this you must do it within 7 days of first use of your ticket or before using any of it AND before you have used all of it. so in a four day it would be not later than the fourth day AND within seven days of FIRST use.
you take it to guest services AT the park and they will exchange it for you at the difference between what you paid for the four day passes and the cost of the annual, the annual will then begin with the first day you used your four day ticket.

I think this is only if you want to convert an entire park hopper to an AP, and make it retroactive...

I think you can get them to credit *unused* Park Hopper days toward an AP with no time limits.

The answer is maybe.

If you purchased the UPH as part of any kind of package like Dream Maker or the Disney Visa 7/4, the answer is no. You cannot upgrade UPH's that come as a part of a package.

If you purchase your UPH as an add-on to a room only reservation or if you purchase it at check in at a WDW resort, then you can upgrade the UPH. It can only be done at Guest Relations at the parks or at DTD. Guest Services, which is at the resorts, cannot do this.

Maybe we need to clarify what UPH you're using!

If you're talking about the current meaning of UPH (Ultimate Park Hopper Pass), those are linked to your room reservation and are what used to be called Length of Stay Passes. Those are not upgradeable, and are probably tied to a package. (Not always, though. You could have a room only reservation, and add UPH on at the hotel when you check in- a la carte.)

But wasn't there another version of UPH last year or the year before that was a normal Park Hopper that you could buy at the Parks? That kind *probably would* be upgradeable.

I am pretty sure I have the correct answer because I just inquired with Disney for myself. I have a 7 Day Park Hopper Plus Pass that I have not used. I can upgrade this to an AP for the price difference at the Park ticket windows OR at Downtown Disney guest relations office. You CAN upgrade a Park Hopper Plus Pass even if you used days on it, you will just pay the difference of the unused days and the AP. I hope this helps.

So, does that mean if someone has purchased an Ultimate Park Hopper as an add-on to a room-only reservation, and said Ultimate Park Hopper is currently encoded on their WDW resort room key, that the people in Guest Relations at the theme parks can actually take that Ultimate Park Hopper off the resort room key magnetic strip, in order to exchange it for an annual pass? That surprises me, wouldn't think they would be able to work with resort room keys at all. But that's nice to hear that that is possible.

Here's the way Deb Wills explains this at www.allears.net:

I am getting a Unlimited Park Hopper when I go to Disney this time. Can I have this upgraded to an annual pass if I decide I want to return before a year is up?

Yes and no. Yes if you purchase your UPH at resort check in or add to a room only reservation prior to arrival. Your AP will be backdated to the first day of the UPH. No if you purchased your UPH as part of a specially priced vacation package (Dream Maker, Fairytale, etc). Tickets that are part of a package are never upgradeable.

My SIL has a 4 day park hopper, can she upgrade it to a 7 day park hopper, or can it only be upgraded to an AP?

They don't actually remove anything from the resort ID's. They modify your information in the ATS computer system where it is stored and accessed each time you slide that resort ID into a park turnstile. They change the database entry from a UPH to an AP. Once done, your resort ID is nothing more than a room key (and room charge if so set up). It would no longer get you into any park. You would have to start using the AP for entry.

It can be upgraded to a 7 day PHP. Bring it to any Guest Relations location at WDW.

I got a 4-day PHP from HiltonHHonors for my December trip. I asked about upgrading it to an Annual Pass while I was there.

They scanned the pass and told me yes, I could upgrade it for about $200.

I decided not to do it, because of the timing of future trips, but it is possible to upgrade some of the tickets that are not directly purchased from Disney.

Yes, you can upgrade most PHP tickets to an AP or PAP. The amount of the credit you receive towards the annual pass depends on what Disney was originally paid for the PHP.

So, if you bought the PHP from a discount broker, you receive a credit equal to what the broker paid Disney. That is probably less than what you paid the broker for the ticket. :teeth:

I have no idea what Hilton may pay Disney for the tickets it gives in return for reward points, but I doubt it is the same amount that Disney charges the general public.

Anyway, it's possible to lose $$ upgrading - you have to think it through.
