I booked a hotel near the airport for our last night since flights back to Philly are so early. Can I take Super Shuttle from the Tropicana back to the airport hotel rather than the airport?

You should be able to, but you'll probably be dropped off last if everyone else in the vehicle is going just to the airport.

Worst case scenario, you could take an Uber from the airport to the hotel. Sometimes the airports provide shuttles to the hotels as well, so that's something to consider.

That is true, I could go to the airport and then call the hotel shuttle from there. I could take a taxi from the Tropicana as well, we will be staying at the LaQunita near the airport. I am just trying to get all my ducks in a row. We are not going until August, but I like to plan.

The shuttle companies tend to charge more for a point to point shuttle than a trip that starts or ends at an airport. You can get a quote, and if it's a big enough difference it might be worth booking a hotel with a free shuttle and getting dropped at the airport. Sherry E has used a point to point shuttle befor, maybe she'll have a recommendation.

You might call a cab co. with the addresses and they can tell you exactly what the fare would be.

I like the cab idea better, but also check into Prime Time shuttle. They are also well known, and I believe they go to different locations (like hotel to ship port, etc.)

A cab is $40 between the resort area and SNA (regardless of how many people or luggage) - which can be much less than some of the shuttles.

Yesterday, I booked our August flight into SNA (arrive at SNA 3pm on Tuesday Aug 2, leave for airport Weds August 24 at 4am).

For the past few trips, we've been using SuperShuttle to/from LAX. Since the standard SNA price for SuperShuttle is $11 one way per person (before applying a discount code), and since we are a family of four, I assume we are better off using a taxi this time around instead of SuperShuttle?

We travel very light (no checked baggage), so all our luggage will easily fit in a standard taxi. Since the trip to the airport is at 4AM, that leg shouldn't be a problem.

My only concern is the trip from the airport to Anaheim on Tuesday afternoon. If we catch a taxi at (say) 3:30pm, is there any danger that we might be caught in rush hour traffic which would add a considerable amount to the cab fair? Or is there some sort of "maximum fair rule" that applies in cases like that?

I'm wondering if I should use SuperShuttle to go from the airport, but a taxi to go to the airport.

If you're going to SNA IMO there no need to get closer to the airport the day before.
Really you think we'd be okay? It will be me and my 8 year old grand-daughter. I have not booked our flights yet, I am waiting for Southwest to open it's flights. But right now the flights going to Philly that get in at a reasonable hour will leave around 8:00 am.

As others have said SNA is really close to DLR. A taxi will cost $35 to $40. It's only about 10 or 15 miles, depending on traffic it generally takes 20 - 30 minutes.
I wouldn't change hotels for the last night. I'd stay at the Tropicana and enjoy the evening in and around DLR.
For peace of mind, I'd allow extra travel time in the morning to the airport.

Enjoy your trip

We had a very early flights out of LAX one trip, we also had to return a rental car and were flying internationally so wanted to be there 2 hours before the flight time. We had no problems because at that hour there was little to no traffic. So if you are taking a domestic flight from SNA, I'd say you would be fine taking a cab from your hotel to that airport in the morning, as others have said, give yourselves lots of time to make for a relaxing journey, but even getting up an hour earlier is less inconvenient than switching hotels.

It sounds like it will be a toss up cost -wise.
I have been caught in traffic just as you describe and the most it has ever cost me is $44.
A cab is nice because it's so fast and easy to get one at the airport and no preplanning is required.

Thanks for the post. I may change my mind closer to August, but my current thinking is that we'll use a taxi both to and from SNA. We've made maybe 25 trips to Disneyland over the past ten years, taking a variety of shuttles to and from both LAX and SNA, and on only one occasion did we encounter a major accident (from LAX) that added maybe an hour of travel time. As you point out, the convenience of taking a taxi probably makes it worth while to gamble on having good traffic.

A totally unrelated question just occurred to me. Since we are a family of four, if we get a regular car as a taxi I'd have to sit in the front seat with the driver. I assume there are no weird rules with certain or all California cab companies which ban passengers from sitting in the front passenger seat? If there is, when I order a taxi from the hotel I guess I'd need to specify a van. Like I already mentioned, we travel with carry on luggage only, so all of our stuff will easily fit in the trunk of a standard car.
