Can I take my Swiss Army knife?

We are sailing on the Wonder on May 2 and are excitedly packing. My ticket folder talks about a zero weapons policy and says that knives (including dive knives) are not allowed onboard. It sounds like I can't take my faithful Swiss Army knife. Is that correct?

My husband's swiss army knife was indeed confiscated before our bags arrived at our room, and given back to him at the end of our cruise.

Yes, DCL's "zero weapons policy" prohibits firearms (including ammunition), knives (including dive knives), swords, daggers, or any other type of weapon.

I would not even try to bring a Swiss Army Knife.

LEAVE IT AT HOME!!!!!

I had a small swiss army knife in a leather belt holder in my personnal ditty bag, with shaving cream can, tooth paste etc.

It was taken out by security, I received a card from Guest services with a recite for return of item at cruise terminal. No problem getting it back at end of cruise. Security rep had a whole desk full of items and I was on late sitting so how many more did he have before I got there.

Each bag is xrayed before they are loaded onto the ship. I was watching the process from my verander during check-in. Very interesting.

We saw a lineup of five or six people at the security desk at the end of the cruise claiming confiscated leatherman's, pocket knives, etc.

Why would you even NEED a swiss army knife on a cruise? We also were stunned at the airport and cruise terminal by the number of people trying to board with such items!Surely most folk have learned by now that security is paramount! Nat:Pinkbounc

We had brought the swiss army knife in our checked luggage after reading the suggested packing list. A knife for the cheese platter in your room, a corkscrew to open a bottle of wine in your room, and so on.

and yet they will give you a very sharp steak knife with your dinner ;)

Will they come to your room to cut up your fruit because they have confiscated your special one-handed apple cutter?
or ask me to make a public announcement that I need help cutting my meat one-handed?...or shall I stick to the soup? Grrr. This makes no sense! I want my knife, thank you, DCL...

We went through xray/port security on 3/27 with one small Swiss Army knife in my handbag and a much larger Leatherman tool on DH's key ring and they didn't say a word about them. <shrugs>

I found it odd that my Swiss Army knife was confiscated, but they didn't say a thing about the sissors in my 1st aid kit.

EVERY week, Disneycruise line is host to at least ONE "Make a wish" child: If Disney can cope with helping severely handicapped people, then Im pretty sure they will be able to assist guests who dont have their trusty Swiss Army Knife! Many folk have problems with cutting food, (me included some days), but never make a fuss. Im certainly not asking Santa for a swiss knife this year!Lighten up folks! Cruising is FUN. Just another point: just wondering what sort of security is offered at USA airports if you can sail through with items mentioned! I had nail clippers confiscated at UK airport, as it had a 1" nail file attached! Nat:Pinkbounc

As I stated in my post the swiss army knife was in our checked luggage, therefore it is perfectly legal to be on the plane.

Just a thought - If I truly intended on harming someone, and my swiss army knife was confiscated, why wouldn't I just take a steak knife from dinner? JMO, but if someone really wants to harm us there is not a lot to stop them.

My husband's leatherman was in his checked bag, which made it through the airlines with no problem, but was confiscated by the Disney security. They left a note in our room letting us know they had taken it, with instructions on how to reclaim it once we got back to Port Canaveral.

We really appreciated the extra security on the Disney ships--it was a confidence booster.
