You can take inbound DME from MCO to your WDW resort on or after your resort check-in date. DME is designed this way because Disney knows that one of more guests in a room may not arrive until after other guests in the same room are already at the resort.

We once arrived at WDW by rental car from Southern Florida. We still needed the car on one of the early days of our stay for an off-site commitment. After that commitment, I took the car to MCO, returned it there, and took DME back to the resort. I had a DME reservation for a few days after our check-in date, and everything was fine.

Normally, under such circumstances, I would return the car at an on-site car rental location at WDW instead of wasting time driving to MCO and taking DME back. In this particular case, however, I was able to get a much better rate returning at MCO. The savings were so huge that it was worth the trouble.

We took DME to MCO on our check-out day.

Before you do what I did, look into returning your car at WDW instead of MCO. You'll save a lot of time. There's a "sticky" at the top of the DISboards Transportation forum about renting (and returning) cars at WDW.

Thanks for the info. So seems I still need to make a DME reservation for my trip after returning the car, right?

Yes. Disney's contract with the airport requires DME passengers to have reservations. You'll receive travel vouchers and yellow luggage routing tags in the mail. Bring the vouchers; toss the tags.

Who are you renting your car from because there maybe a rental location by DTD that you can return the car to. Then all you have to do is ride the DTD bus back to your resort.
