I'm not rich and had to save for this trip a long time, I also don't have a lot of money. The only reason I am taking my family on this cruise is because I received a Florida resident rate and I live here (Orlando). We were supposed to be on the NON Nov. 30th cruise which was cancelled. So my question is can we take our own liquor? Anyone!!!!!!!!!

We were also on the NON November 30th cruise. But, instead we went on a 4-day on December 1st. We brought Cognac, 5 bottles of wine, coolers and beer. We carried it all on with us. We too didn't want to pay the money for the cruise drinks. We enjoyed a bottle of wine in the cabin before dinner and brought a glass on deck with us as we walked around before dinner.
What you need to do is buy a drink at the sailaway party, and keep the glass in your cabin. Then, it is easy to fill it with your own beverages. Maybe it is cheating... but, if you have to do it, you have to do it!

We bought a couple Bubba's of beer in mexico, then some rum in key west. We did not have a problem bringing it on board ship. They X-ray your baggage as you bring it on board. I saw other peaples bag's being "x-rayed" they also contained " bottles of liquid". Can't blame you for the B.Y.O.B. , when you convert canadian dollars to U.S. green backs " ooocccchhhhh" .

When they charge $6.95 for a drink, that is $11.00 Canadian! There is no way we could do that. It is tough enough converting the cruise price (eg. $3500 is equal to almost $6000!) No wonder so few Canadians do the Disney cruises! Other cruise lines price in Canadian dollars for us, making it much cheaper.

we where on the 7 day magic in december 2002 . There was quite a few canadians, I'd estimate about 15% . There was 3 canadian night club acts also. Your right , when you pay double for the drinks, you wait for the two for one special's , we actually ran into a few two for one happy hour's and the captains dinner had free cocktails.

Is there any way to take it with you when you're flying in to Orlando and (I don't believe) you can't take alcohol on the plane with you?

So, you just carried it in with you when you board the ship? My DH and his rum will cost me a fortune at $6.00 a drink. People can just walk on with a case of beer etc.?

I wouldn't be as obvious as that. All our liquor was carried on by us and was all in duffle bags.

Yes, you can fly with liquor, that is not a problem. But, there are places to buy liquor right near the port. Dave has a list of them on his site.

We are planning on stopping at a liquor store on the way to the port. I believe there are area maps with the local stores on www.dcltribute.com. We are also stopping for diet coke. :) My husband and I don't drink coffee, so diet coke is our vice.

But we have a rental car. If you are taking a limo, I believe you can get them to make a stop, too.

We have transfers so we'll be riding the DCL bus and I doubt I'll be able to talk the driver into making a pitstop ;) .

This is a dumb question, but I've never carried alcohol on a plane with me (I didn't think they would allow it)....would you pack it in your carryon or with your other luggage?

I think I'm going to bring a bottle of Baileys with us on our trip :smooth:

We have brought alcohol with us on planes many, many times (that is how we get our duty-free up to Canada). It is completely legal and there is no limit. I would never pack it in the luggage, as it might break.

We want to take some wine and beer along with caffeine free diet coke. We also wanted to take a collapsable cooler to put our drinks in after we board.
In 2001 we took cans in our luggage and used the beverage cooler in the room. It never did get cold and DH did not like drinking his beer on ice. On the documents it said NO COOLERS. Yet people brought them anyway. I have read that it still says NO COOLERS yet some people seem to get away with bringing them.

Is there a secret on how to get your drink and cooler on board? I have read that some cruisers have put the drinks in the cooler (soft sided & no ice) and wheeled them on with no problems. Yet others go farther and seperate the cooler from the drinks and place the drinks in a suitase. Is that necessary?
We do plan on getting a special drink at the sailaway party to start the cruise off right.
Thanks for any help

I had read about the coolers not being good in the cabins. Ours was great! It kept my husband's beer nice and cold. We didn't bring a cooler with us, just packed everything in bags, along with our clothes.

We were only on the 3 day so it wasn't to bad. We told our stateroom hostess and he had someone else come look at it. He said it was working and that it was not ment to keep drinks cold just cool. We didn't expect ice in our drinks but would have liked it cooler than basement storage temp.
Thats why for our 7 day we want to take a collapsable cooler that we can put ice in after we board. We just want to be sure we bring it & our drinks on correctly so we don't have problems at boarding time.

We had a soft cooler in our luggage. We carried on a suitcase of beer, a case of water bottles Father-in-law was in the Merchant Marines and will only drink bottles, and a 24 pack of diet coke and coke. Strapped to a luggage carrier. We had to take thm apart to be x-rayed but no problem getting them thru. Our room steward put a plastic bag with ice in our cooler everyday. No problem with leaking and drinks were always cold. No one gave us any grief over anything and I will be doing it again in November. Have A GREAT CRUISE!

Thanks Goofysgirl. Did you cruise recently? I thought I had read were someone had a problem recently. Maybe they had one of those big hard plastic coolers.

We were on the October 5th Magic. I hope they do not make any changes as this worked out very well for us.

Remember that liquor is quite cheap at some of the islands. I bought a liter of Tanqueray gin at St. Thomas for $7.00. That would cost 4 times as much at a liquor store at Cape Canaveral. So only bring as much as you need for the first few days and then stock up during your ports of call.

As has been mentioned earlier in this thread, I have maps at my web site...

www.dcltribute.com/spacecoast

I recommend the Publix at the first exit east of I-95 for an easy stop to get sodas, beer and wine. The Winn-Dixie across the street has a liquor store if you need liquor. If you need a greater selection, I recommend ABC Fine Wines & Spirits. They have a location in Cape Canaveral, just a couple miles beyond the port.

NEDLEYCAN....I see you're also on the Nov 15 Eastern cruise! See you there (if November ever gets here!)!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
