Can I still tag my luggage for the ME?

We have a weird situation we need to rent a car for the day to pick up my grandson. We are there for 17 days so we have 4 pieces of luggage 2 large and 2 medium size ones,backpack and 3 caryons. LoL

We are scheduled to take the ME but it is cheaper for us to rent the car from the airport and just drive to Clearwater and skip all the ME would be faster for us. Will they still take my luggage to the resort even if we haven't checked in for the ME?

Hmmm, I would think that's a major security issue.

Well it is a no. Guess we will just hope it fits in the car we may have to drop it off at pop before we pick him up but it will still save time.

There is a sticky thread here on the transportation forum discussing it. There have, to my knowledge, been no reported-to-the-dis cases of it not working.

There is discussion of what if a bag is lost and whose responsibility is it (DME or the airline) and how they might notice that no one checked in for it. But I haven't seen any outright "fails" where bags are just left at the airport.

In fact, since the bags are pulled from behind the scenes, before they hit the carousel (when properly tagged), and because the airport is big with shops and restaurants and such, and because you don't have A bus you are supposed to catch to wdw, the bags could easily be on a truck heading towards wdw before you even get on a bus.

Traveling is full of delays and different decisions and changes, and I think DME is set up to handle those things.
