I second the warning about gift cards. I bought Disney dollars in our local disney store in Arizona and was going to buy a gift card, but they said their gift cards could only be used in Disney in California. She said to be very careful about any gift cards because they are usually only valid where bought.

I purchased disney dollars at our store that i am letting the kids dd10 and ds6 earn spending money for our up coming trip in july. I went to the dollar store and bought poster boards for each of them and bought red and blue stars and i write $1.00 on each star so we both can keep up with how much they earn. I leave stars on there bed and they get very excited. I told them to glue them on because stars can be taken away but they are yours when you glue them on. THEY LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We did the Disney Cruise a few years ago and you also could not use the Disney Gift Card on the cruise - but you could use Disney Dollars. Not sure if things have changed but just be careful.

We used Disney Dollars for our October trip and it was great. DS already has $40 for the August trip, and he has more coming in his valentine!

I thought about trying to get a gift card, but they told me at the Disney Store that those cards are NOT valid in the parks. Better to stick with what I know - Disney Dollars!

Yes, you may use them for room charges. Just go to the front desk and tell them to apply the Disney Dollars to your account.

Just wanted to say thanks for everyone talking about these "Disney Dollars!" I never knew we could get them until I read these threads, and yes I have been to Disney World before but I was younger! I went today and got my little girl some for our trip. We are taking her for her fourth b-day and I though these would be great presents at her party here the night before we leave! I have told our whole family so I am sure she will rack up.

To ensure he saves appropriately for our vacation, I have been paying our son his allowance in Disney Dollars for the past few months. By the time we get there he should have enough for a mickey mouse watch.

If you live in the NYC area, The World of Disney Store in Manhattan sells the gift cards that are sold in Disney World and can be used there in the parks and resorts I think this is because this store is owned and operated by Disney but the Disney stores in the malls are owned by The Children's Place.

I was just in the local Disney Store this morning, and noticed the display of tickets and gift cards. I didn't look at all of them, but one of the gift cards said 'Disneyland' on it - obviously specifically for Disneyland, not Disney World. They may also sell cards for Disney World, I didn't check...

Great tip for the kids to earn Disney Dollars! I just found out that you could buy DDs at the Disney Store, and will be getting some for the kids' Easter baskets. DS doesn't have an allowance yet (he's 5), so I'm trying to think of ways he can earn DDs. He's currently getting rewarded with computer time (Dh and I are both computer nerds, and apparently it's a genetic trait!), so I'm not sure if he'll want to give that up for some DDs!

yes you can as this is how i paid for my room when i had an online ressie and couldn't put money toward room.

We don't have a Disney Store anywhere near us, does anyone know if I can get them online somewhere??? I would love to be able to have my girls earn their own spending money this way!!!
