Can I ride the Hogwarts Express train with a base ticket or is a park to park ticket required?

Thank you for the quick reply.

So if you buy a base ticket, you are just out of luck? No way to ride it and then turn right around and ride it back to the park you came from?

Correct. You'll have to upgrade it to a park to park before riding HE.

It's my understanding that they have a ticket booth at the train where you can upgrade your ticket but you cannot ride at all without park to park

The reason for the park to park ticket is simple. You are leaving one park and arriving in another...can't do that with a base one park ticket.

Some people have reported riding round trip with a base ticket if one park was open and the other was closed.

But that is probably more of an exception than the rule .I wouldn't count on that always being the case. But maybe in special circumstances.Like during HHN when the studios closes early and IOA is still open. Not sure about early entry since Universal is rumored to have said that once Sept 2nd comes, Hogwarts express wont operate at all during early early and will only open when both parks do for the day

I think the only time you may be able to ride with a one park ticket is if the studios is closed early for HHN. Then IOA may run it as a one park return trip ride.

Ok, I confess/ Totally clueless here. We are actually heading down to Orlando later today. Thought we might do a day at Universal to see the new Harry Potter area. We went a year ago in Jan, just to IOA.

Can someone explain the Hogwarts train new area thing? It's sounding to me that it's a bit more than just another attraction in IOA? We were just going to do one day.

The Hogwarts Express takes you from Hogsmeade in IOA to London in Universal (or vice versa). It is a true to movie train that has a simulated journey on the windows. There are also some extra effects to make it seem like a real journey.

Since the ride takes you from one park to another, you need a two park pass in order to board it.

The new Harry Potter area is in Universal Studios. The old Harry Potter area is in IOA.

Thanks for the help. I just assumed it was in IOA along with the original area. Just thought I should come on the boards and look for some last minute tips before hopping on our plane. Good to know, as it will change our plans a bit. Should probably consider the Power Pass since we get down to Orlando quite a bit with my daughter in DCP. She's getting a Florida Resident Power pass, so should just do it.
