Hi! My family is headed to Disneyland in 5 days...yay! :) We have 2 boys, 7 and 5, and a 10 month old daughter. I thought I read somewhere about ride swapping online and now can't find it.

Is it possible for all of us to wait in line on a ride that has a height requirement and then dh and ds1 go on the ride while I wait, when they get off, I can go with ds2 while they stay with the baby?
Again, I thought I read this somewhere, but maybe not...just trying to plan ahead.

Thanks!

Yes, you can do this. There typically is a cast member (CM) at the end of the line, or entrance to the attraction. Ask him/her if you can do a baby swap. They will most likely give you a sheet of paper. Your husband & child can go through the line while you wait at the exit. When they come through the exit, you can enter with child #2 through the exit & then get on the ride.

The basics of rider switch are correct. However, the one part you mentioned won't be able to happen, namely,
Is it possible for all of us to wait in line on a ride that has a height requirement
.

People that don't meet the height can't wait in line...well there can be an aspect of waiting until you get to the first CM, though I personally haven't experienced that. But an example could be going up the ramp to the line at Space Mountain...the family will need to go up that ramp, and if there is a long enough line where people are in line on the ramp...that could be considered waiting in line...I just haven't experienced that sort of line there (except as a child, when I was tall enough to go on it).

But under-height kids won't be able to go into the proper line...the rider switch pass is given before the tall-enough people go into the proper line, and so the under-height people wait outside of the ride. I *highly* recommend that the people waiting figure out something to do while waiting, b/c I know from experience that the wait can be really boring if you're just sitting at the exit!

Make sure you ask where to return to with the child swap pass. Some rides you do go back through the exit to board, but others you have to return to the fastpass entrance. We once tried to go through the exit with a child swap pass, and the CMs made it very clear that we should have gone to the fastpass line instead. :confused3

The only ride I can think of where you would stand in line together is matterhorn. There isn't a CM at the ride entrance so we stood in line together and let the CM at the front know what we were doing and then DD and I just stood at the back of the platform while my ds and dh rode. Otherwise, it works best to have FP's for the first 2 riders. You all approach the CM and show the baby and ask for a swap then the first 2 go ride through the FP line. When they get off, you and DS2 take the baby swap pass and go through the FP line again.

The advantage to riding this way is that you can have 2 sets of FP's out at the same time (get one set of FP's say at SM on you and DS#1's tickets and then go get another set at BTMRR on DH and DS#2).

This is how we did it. We got a child swap pass: DH, DS1, and DS2 waited in line or used fastpasses. Me and DD got something to drink, walked around, listened dapper dans, nuresed. etc. Then DH called when they got off the ride. The Me and DS (1 or 2 they switched off) rode with the child swap. DH, DD, and other DS got something to drink, visited characters, rode the river boat. Then we met up at the next ride. DS's thought it was awesome because they got to ride rides twice in a row!!
