Hello All,
I am just wondering if I can put in a request with POP not to have a room on the first floor? I have read on these boards thats it better not to be on the first floor. Also, would I call POP to make the request or would I go through Disney travel with whom we made our original reservation.

You can request an upper floor. If they assign you a ground floor you can request a change..

Sure, I often request an upper floor.

Call CRO (aka Disney Travel) to make a request. When you a Disney resort, you're actually getting a call center, not the resort itself.

You can definitely put in a request for a certain floor and building, however, it's never guaranteed. If you don't like the location of your assigned room at check-in you can always asked to be moved but again if the resort if full, they may not be able to accommodate you. Saying that - if your request is due to a disability of some kind, make sure to let them know.

I requested at WL for a balcony and "not on the ground floor", and yup - I was placed on the ground floor. :sad2: They obviously never even looked at the requests. The computer places you wherever. I was lucky the CM switched me. EVen worse, this also happened to me on my prior stay at WL, and that time they refused to switch me off the ground floor. I won't stay at WL again since I can't get off the ground!

As with POP, you can ask for non-ground floor, but many requests are never looked at. If you get ground floor, it's up to the CM at check-in if they want to help you or not. I find most CMs want the check-in transaction done and will give you the line "we are all full, sorry". Some many suggest trying again tomorrow and maybe switching rooms then. Oh well - it's the luck of the draw, sometimes!

That's why I would say "upper floor" rather than "not on ground floor". If someone looks at it quick, all they see is "ground floor".

I always request upper floor. Being a light sleeper I couldn't handle people walking on my head.

I don't find this to be true at all. I'd say 99% of my requests have been met. I've stayed at most of the deluxes and all of the moderates and values. It is true that not every single request can be met. But I have never felt like Disney Cast Members at the front desk were just routinely doing their jobs and not trying to make guests as happy as possible. If circumstances don't allow for you to be moved to another room, then that's that. You can't get blood from a stone, I guess.

Sorry you didn't have good experiences but I have to totally disagree with the statement that requests never get looked at.

I would have to disagree with your statement. If they never intended on honoring requests, they would never allow you to make them. Requests are just that, requests, not guaranteed. You may have not gotten your request filled because there was no availability.

I absolutely stand by my statement - that many requests are never looked at (I didn't say all!). You guys are so lucky if you never had problems getting requests, and I envy you! (what's your secret! :teeth: ). Obviousy some people's requests are granted, and here on this DIS, we hear about the success stories far more than the denied requests. I am zero-for-five for requests, so I have good reason for thinking requests aren't read. :sad2: My requests weren't shocking either - like a balcony at WL (since most rooms are not on the ground floor anyways! :confused3 ). I sincerely believe the computer assigns most rooms, especially if you have no outstanding issues (handicapped, connecting, etc), and no human is involved in the assignment.

And yes - I believe most CMs aren't going to spend tons of time overiding the computer and granting requests. They need to keep the line moving, and they know they can't give everyone everything. They got to draw the line with some guests (aparently I'm one of them). I travel solo, so I am an easy one to say "no" to, since i have no family/mobility issues (small children, strollers, etc) to deal with.

Oh well - glad you all had better luck than me!
