Would I be able to get an RFID card at check-in and keep my MagicBand? I would rather use a card, but I still want to keep the MagicBand as a souvenir.

update - look at post #15

Yes. You can use either one.

Just my experience from my trip in December.:)

I was told it had to be one or the other.

But I didn't "press" the matter and ask to see a manager or anything like that.:)

Thanks for the responses. So it just has to be one or the other that gets activated as a park ticket? I don't have to surrender my MagicBand over for a card?

It is already activated when you receive it. It would need to be deactivated, I would think, before you could use the tickets.

The magicband and a RFID card are interchangeable and can both be active at the same time. I'd bypass the front desk and take your band to guest relations and explain you want a physical card in addition to your band

Just leave the MB at home and ask for the card. If all you want the band for is a souvenir, why bring it?

I should have specified I asked for a Key to the World card in addition to my MagicBand.:)

I'm not sure if this actually helps with this specific question, but I have a KTTW card from a trip last year, and it is still showing as actively associated with my Disney account along with the Magicbands for our upcoming trip. That would seem to imply that it'll be functional right alongside the Magicbands (which will come in handy for the night we're going out to a nice dinner, since I don't want to have to take the flashy MagicBand just to get back into the room afterwards).

Cards and bands can absolutely be active at the same time. In December, they were trying to stop double dipping for a time and asking people to choose one or the other.

AP holders all have a card and get a band in addition.

Same here but tickets have no days on them. But they still show, wish there was a way to delete them!

Many times those "ghosts of past trips" spontaneously dissappear.

So it sounds like when they still had both FastPass systems going in December, you could have only one or the other, but now it shouldn't matter.

Thanks for all the responses.

This is good to know. While I will take the Magic Band with me, I am not at all certain that I will be able to tolerate wearing it. I may very well end up requesting a card instead.

Yes - you can have both! I kept my band and got a card at check-in. The cast member said I could indeed get a card but was being real stinky about it. For some reason she didn't want to be bothered with making a card. She said it would only open the room door and do nothing else. It worked great for everything though - for the room, parks, and fastpass+s. :)

The only problem it had was being scanned to get the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom cards. It worked fine to get the Pirate map in Adventureland, but it had problems with the sorcerer cards.

Thanks for the update!

Appreciate the details ... even the ones about it not being the most magical experience to get the card but magical to use once you received.
