DD will not drink milk so I am thinking about taking apple juice along for her instead. If I get bottles or boxes and stick them in a ziploc (probably double bagged) will they be okay in my checked luggage? TIA

I, personally, wouldn't risk it. I am not sure if others have done it or not and what their success rate was.

I would be terrified they would bust open, or freeze and expand or somehow ruin my luggage and everyone else's. I would hate to be responsible for something like that.

It is not recommended due to the possibility of leakage and damage to other passengers luggage.

See http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2251700 for ideas on how you can easily and relatively cheaply have items delivered or ordered or available for purchase instead.

I have done it without a problem...double bagged!

Fortunately for you and everyone else traveling on the same plane. I would not be happy if my luggage came out on the carousel soaked with apple juice. I can't believe people do this--why take the risk? Seriously, if you can afford to fly to and visit WDW, you can buy your juice and water there!

I wouldn't bother - apple juice is readily available in all the gift shops and restaurants.

If you need just a few items you can get them in the small grocery section of the resort gift shop although they charge more.

If you need more than a few things there are a few grocery delivery services that will deliver your order to your resort for a (imho) reasonable fee.

I use wegoshop.com but folks have also posted positive resports about garden grocer.com and goodings -

Juice, water and other liquids are heavy. Very possible that those items would put your bag over the limit and you would have to pay extra.

But don't do it - as others have said, why take the chance of a leak. What a sticky mess if one of them leak! Wouldn't you rather pay a little more for juice on site than spend hours in a laundry room somewhere trying to wash everything after you arrive? Why take the chance? Juice isn't THAT much more expensive on-site.

I wouldn't bring it either. I believe that Florida has juice.

If you are on the DDP you can get a resort mug for your drinks and then get a bottled juice as the drink that comes with your meal. We do this all the time. We usually end up with too many by the end of the trip and have given some away before leaving.

Honestly I never really thought about it leaking very much. I always double bagged all that stuff and have for years.
To me it was just the same as packing sunscreen/shampoo etc. I've always taken that stuff and drinks in my luggage just to have on hand.

the TSA website even says "Liquids and gels, including baby formula, breast milk, or juice, may be packed in your luggage and checked with your airline."

Yes Florida and everywhere else has juice etc and it's usually more about convience then money.

Don't think anyone is saying it isn't legal to do it - just that if something goes wrong it's a horrible, terrible mess, and maybe not just for the person who had the leak.

If you've ever been unfortunate enough to be a victim of someone else's leak, you'd know why some of us actively try to discourage it.

Except juice doesn't have the same viscosity as shampoo or conditioner; and passengers bringing juice are likely to pack MUCH more than the typical 8-16 ounces in a bottle of haircare product.

Maybe you could pick up a shoe box size plastic container to put it in. I would wrap it in bubble wrap first. Then save the bubble wrap and use it to wrap things you have bought and then place that item in the container for a safer trip home.

Our super Walmart selling the Sam's brand of apple juice that comes in those easy to carry sleaves that you just add to water and it taste no different except that it does not contain sugar!

Awesome idea! I had no idea they had those! We drink the Nestea and Crystal Lite ones all of the time! Thanx!:thumbsup2

Oh, thank you for mentioning that! I had no idea they sold that stuff. I'm definitely going to look for it next time I'm at Walmart. :goodvibes

I take water and gatorade in my checked luggage everytime I fly. I have never been over the weight limit and I have only ever had one water bottle break (in 11 trips). Save a small cardboard box and put the boxed juice in there. You can put bubble wrap or those packing styrofoam things in the box just for added security, but I don't think you will need to. You will be absolutely fine packing apple juice boxes in a small cardboard box and placing that in your checked luggage.

Another thing you can do is insulate your juice boxes/bottles with the dollar store ponchos by placing them inside the cardboard box. That way you have your juice and your inexpensive rain ponchos.

Just from experience, while I love the sugar free crystal light pouches, ect a picky kid may not care for them because they do not have sugar. That's part of the reason kids like juice so much, it's all sugar.

I don't give my kids the Crystal Lite things because I don't want them consuming artificial sweetners. The juice they drink is 100% juice--no sugar added. And I still think it is a BAD idea to pack liquids like that in your suitcase! How are you going to feel when everyone's luggage comes out soaked with your juice? Nope--not worth it!

To prevent your luggage as well as others from getting wet if one breaks just put them into a plastic bag and tie the bag up. I double bag mine and have never had a problem at all taking liquids in checked luggage. So far never had any break open either. We always pack my sons boxed soy milk for his cereal in the morning without any problems at all. In 1998 I flew to Europe with juice pouches in my checked luggage and had no problems at all. Many people in my group had soda in their checked luggage as well. Believe me juice and soda is not cheap over there and being a teenager that fundraised for months to go it was the only way to go. A can of soda back than cost around $3.00 a can. Water was also about $2-4 a bottle depending on size.

It's not the moon, it's a developed, advanced continent. I buy water for 12p for a large bottle at Tesco, or less than a Euro for a large bottle in Germany or France. Soda may be more expensive because most people don't drink it that often.

24p for 2 litres - I don't see those prices in America even for bottled water. http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesc...neral_Water/Clearview_Sparkling_Water_2L.html
