I got a really good deal on the Boardwalk, room only, so this time we are not getting the dining plan, and since my children are not used to not having the dining plan, I want to give them a Gift Card with the amount of money for 9 days worth of snacks , because (that, has happened before) if I give them the cash, they will use it , to buy stuff ,other than snacks. Can they pay with the gift cards at the carts?

I agree with PP, you can use a gift card for just about anything at Disney. No way to limit the card to just snacks. But to answer your question, yes you should be able to use a gift card at the food carts.

Yes. However, another idea that we now LOVE is that we charge EVERYTHING to our room, and then pay with our gift cards periodically throughout our trip. What we love about this is that at the end of our trip we get one list with everything we bought on it.

FYI, the Boardwalk has at least 1 free-standing food booths that are not owned by Disney.
I know they are not on the dining plan, so I don’t think they would take Disney gift cards.
(The Bakery, Pizza Window, market and Ample Hills are on the Dining plan)

thanks everyone for the input. I just want my kids to feel that I am serious about spending the money on the snacks and no other items ( they will get at Christmas also a Disney card as a gift).

I get what you're trying to do, but as others have said, Disney Gift Cards are not able to be designated "Food" or "Merchandise", so if they are given the cards for the snacks as well, they could use them for other things. The only way to ensure that the snack cards are only used for snacks is for YOU to hold onto them and only pull them out for snacks.

Is there a way you could set an amount per day for snacks and have that as cash in envelopes then each morning they get that day's envelope and when that money is gone it's gone? My guess is if they spend it on "other stuff" and end up short of "necessary" snacks for a day or so, they'll learn quickly.

Small fibs/white lies are a parent's best friend. Depending on their age and the kid's willingness to feel that they could get declined making a souvenir purchase, you could tell them the cards have been set up only for food purchases. I know my daughter would never risk buying a toy on her own with the potential risk (to her) of being told the card doesn't work.

As a parent, you must let them learn to fail and learn to stand up and try again. One day of going "hungry" at WDW because they chose to buy a t-shirt or a piece of plastic toy rather than food should instill the correct motivation. ;)

I say hungry in quotation marks because certainly you are having some food in the room or some kind of meal during the day? unless you are all surviving from the calories off your snacks? Also not recommended, you need real food sometime during the day.... ;)

I'd happily let my child go without snacks if they chose to spend their money elsewhere. That's their choice. Honestly I think as a child, I did spend my food money on WDW souvenirs! LOL

Not every guest is entitled to a Mickey Bar, same as how not every guest is entitled to stay in the Cinderella Castle Suite ;) It's all about the choices and budget YOU choose!

Thats exactly what I am trying to do......

I am taking them to a good restaurant a day, and a quick service also, the thing is that I don´t like that after the purchase of souveniers, they forget about them so quickly......and that doesn´t create a memorable family memory as a good Mickey ice cream bar....LOL

Did someone give in and get them snacks? If so, that's probably why.

But the bottom line is there is no way to designate a card is "only for snacks" other than you saying it (IOW lying to them).

I don´t like to lie, so The thing I am going to do ,is not give them more information than necesary.........:rolleyes1

You can add the dining plan to your room only reservation and still keep the discount.

How much had you given for snacks? Five dollars could buy a snack. Five dollars doesn’t buy a lot of souvenir.

I will put $54 dollars , for 9 days.....not a very good souvenir, and no snacks for 9 days.....6 dollars per day.....
