can i pay hotel balance with universal dollars?

I'm booking room only for November tomorrow. If I buy universal gift cards at my grocery store I get .10 a gallon off gas for every $50 I spend. We did it for Disney and got a few free tanks. I know portofino shops take the universal $$$ but wonder if anyone has done that.

I just called and you can NOT use the gift cards to pay the hotel bill. She said you an use the gift cards towards any purchase (including restaurants) inside either park, but not in CityWalk.

I live in NC and our local Kroger grocery store sells them. They come in $50 increments here.

I called and the girl didn't know so she had me call portofino front desk directly. And front desk said that I could use them to pay bill. I am calling again.

Ok I called portofino directly again; I reached guest services. She said absolutely you can NOT use them at any place in hotel, let alone pay your bill. That's funny cuz we used them at shops last year. My husband gave one of the club guys a universal $5 and the kid looked at him like he was crazy. Hubby told him to try it and the next day the kid couldn't WAIT to get another one. So the girl from guest services today told me the only place I could use them was universal store at portofino. I'm calling front desk directly because when I talked to them before she said no problem?????

You redeem the gift cards at guest services at park. They give you different denomination universal bills. We paid our hotel up front last year so didn't try it. I just want to make sure I can use them to pay bill as I will never spend that much in gift card. I am calling front desk later and may have to talk to manager to verify. For those who want to know where to buy them...I'm in ohio and buy them at giant eagle grocery store. They now have them. In 50 and 100 increments with harry potter on them. I also see them. In gas stations now. They must be doing well because they have way more than they used to. The disney ones go up to $500. If you don't think your grocery store has them, I would ask because they probably do.
