can I open a target card to get discount on disney?

I would question the benefit in the long run.

Every time you open a charge card just to get the % off, it goes on your credit score and if you are considering a big purchase any time soon it may not be to your advantage to have so much "credit" out there.

This is true if people are opening many accounts for a one time discount then closing the accounts or never using them again. Opening one new card and keeping it wont mess up your credit.

Whats the scoop on using Disney gift cards to pay for your resort stay?

I've "heard" that it can NOT be done. Has anyone actually personally used a stack of gift cards to pay for their Disney resort stay?

I HAVE used a thick stack of (Target purchased) Disney gift cards to pay for my Disney cruise. Twice.

And, yes, using your Target red card to pay for Disney gift cards DOES indeed drop the price by 5%. :thumbsup2

I absolutely used a big stack of gift cards to pay for our trip (30 cards in all). Here's what we did.

Used Disney credit card (to earn those points) and bought a wal-mart gift card. ($3000) I think I had to buy 6 $500 cards since that's the limit on them.

Then I used the wal-mart gift cards and went to sam's club and purchased the deal they had out. $100 gift card for $96 or $97....don't remember the exact price. The $100 card had a bonus $10 card we could use on the Disney Store website. Used those card which totalled $300 to buy souvenirs that we knew the boys would want.

Since we were on the quick service dining plan and had no sit down meal credits, we used the credits we earned on our Disney credit card to pay for our two big meals (there were 8 of us and those points paid for all of those two meals.) We ended up only having to pay for one sit down meal out of pocket since there was only three meals we wanted to do.

Long story short.....yes, the let me use the gift cards to pay for my reservations. I called on several different occasions to pay off the resort balance since using them to pay took so long, but well worth it! :cheer2:

I just realized that Chase has a Disney VISA Debit card (free), which has the same % off as the Disney Visa Credit card for shopping and dining at the parks. I bank with Chase, so I'm going to switch my plain debit card for a Disney Debit Card and take advantage of the perks!

Don't forget the pharmacy rewards program...After you fill 5 prescriptions at the Target Pharmacy, you receive a coupon for 5% off a day of shopping. You can stack that 5% on top of the 5% debit/credit reward bringing a $50 GC down to $45.13.

NOt exactly sure if I am understanding, but I don't think you get a discount on Gift cards, ever, but I could be wrong

I bought several Disney gift cards before our trip in October (different trips and different Target locations) and used my Target Red Card and I got the 5% savings.

Ummmmm...

The majority of the Budget Boarders open the DEBIT card version of the Target REDCard -- no credit check needed -- exact same benefits...

so if I open the card and on the same day get a lot of disney cards...will I save the 5% plus the special for opening the card and then can I use the disney cards to pay for my resort?

OP - you might be limited in how much you can actually purchase until you receive your plastic card in the mail -- initially, you will receive a barcoded register receipt which will serve as a temporary card.

The Red Cards are no longer credit cards. They're debit cards and tied to your checking account. They treat it like checks, so you can not open a card and instantly buy $1500 worth of cards, even if it's in your account. Your best bet is to work your way up. I started with $100, then 150, then 200, etc. Now that I've been doing that for a year, I'm sure I could use my red card and buy $2000 worth of cards. The money doesn't come instantly out of your account, it takes a few days. And your Pin is the Pin of your ATM card.

Yes, you get 5% off anything except a TARGET Gift card. Entertainment cards are not considered gift cards.

And the sole reason I got a red card was because of the discount.

They are still two separate cards. The debit card is tied to your checking account. You put in your pin when you swipe and the money comes out of your checking. As you stated, sometimes it takes a few days for the official withdrawal but if the money is not there, it will be declined. If the money is there, you can purchase. I never had any limit, my limit was always the $$ in my checking account.

I just got mine a few months ago, and I bought a $300 camera and then made some other purchases that same day. Not sure if there is a limit, but if OP is looking to get $200 in Disney GC's the first day, they shouldn't have any trouble with it.

Someone is reporting on another thread that the Disney Gift cards have been reclassified and no longer get the 5% off. This is as off last last week. I don't have a Red Card, just saw this thread and wanted to give a heads up.

None of the red cards in my area are credit cards. I was told they phased out the credit program, if you have one, then it's not new. At least that is what my customer service told us when we tried to apply.

And yes, there is a limit with the checking account, it is the same with checks. It goes by how much you shopped previously. Someone who works at Target posted the chart once on these boards. The money isn't linked to your checking account for immediate access, by that I mean if I have $500 in my checking account, go to Target and use my red card for $400 worth of GCs, when I go home, my balance will still say $500. Target charges won't hit my account for another day or two. Target has no idea how much I have in my checking account, they only know if the transaction goes through or not. For example, I never keep money in my checking account since I get 0% interest. So I will go to Target, find something cute, buy using my redcard, and then after I transfer the money into my checking account so money is there when the transaction hits. I do this all the time.

Target still offers the credit card. I have one and haven't had it that long. Plus, check out the link, you can apply for either debit or redit Red cards through them.

I signed up for a Red card (credit, not debit) in store less than two weeks ago.

I bought 2 cards on Saturday at the Brentwood, MO Target and got both my 5% pharmacy rewards discount and my 5% RedCard discount.

I would think all of the registers would ring the same, but I don't know.

I just know mine are still working.

Yikes I hope not, but I've been saying it's bound to happen. I recently caved on got the Target Debit card since previously my Mom was buying for me and then I'd pay her back. It would be just my luck if this were true. I'll try it out and see what happens. I haven't bought any since I got my card about 2 weeks ago.

Thanks for the head's up - let's hope it's not true! :goodvibes
