Can I make an 11 mo. ressie, even if I dont close until March 05?

our Use year doesnt begin until March 05, which is when the contract becomes final.

We want to book a reservation using the 11 month window @ SSR, for July 2005, so logically we can call Aug. 1 to make the reservation. But since our contract wont become offical until March 2005, I am assuming no points will be shown in our account.

My question is will we still be allowed to make the reservation even though technically our contract doesnt become official until March 2005.

You can not make a reservation until you are a member, if I understand you will not be a member until Mar 05???that doesn't seem right to me but that is what I am reading. if you were a member you would not have to have your points to make a reservation, you just need them in the future to make a reservationl. I think there must be something wrong with this situation as presented.

Yes you can! I have an October use year that starts this coming October (2004) and I have 2 reservations already... one for Dec and one for Jan. Just give member services a call and they will walk you through it.

Yes you can make reservations. The stay itself cannot commence until your closing has occurred. Member Services should have an "estimated" closing date attached to your contract for these purposes.

That's one of the big selling points for buying direct. As soon as you give DVC a deposit (often via credit card), you can immediately book your first stay. If the contract should fall-through for some reason, DVC simply cancels the reservation in your name.

Thanks for the responses. I guess my initial post was a bit confusing. I ahve already paid by CC the downpayment and have my member #, but dont close until March 2005. I wont plan on using my point until summer 05 so that is great. I cant wait until August 1!

If you have a member number and have given a downpayment, I'd have to guess that you will be closing a lot sooner than March 2005. You will receive paperwork from DVC when the closing happens, and you can check the Orange County Comptroller's website for your deed periodically if you wish.

March 2005 is likely the date when the SSR building (that you share a percentage of) is due to open. This even sounds a bit iffy...since they haven't completely sold out of the fourth building which opens next month.

You are a member (congratulations!). You are free to make reservations within the normal 11 month window (assuming the stay commences after the date your building at SSR opens).

You can book anytime so long as your travel doesn't start until after you close.

It sounds like you have the same use year as my DD. She contacted her guide and put a deposit down. She was told her use year would be March of 2005. I think once you put down your deposit and have signed the first set of papers and send them back and have a member number you are set to go. When I joined last December I almost immediatly called and banked my points for a vacation in 12/05, my use year started 2/04. Susan

You should not have any problems making July-2005 ressie. I believe you can make the ressie as long as MS deems you'll have your points available to you @ check-in.

The closing date doesn't sound right to me. I have started the process, I think, on July 9, 2004 by by giving Disney a deposit on my credit card. The package of documents that Disney sent me has a closing date of August 18, 2004. My use year starts August 2004 but I choose to forego the first years set of points. I sent the package back to them on the 15th of July which they received on July 20. I received a notice that the credit application was approved the same day. Given my timeframe, I would expect yours to be much shorter than the timeframe that you listed.

As others have said, you can make a reservation at your home resort at 11 months as long as you will have points for when you are planning to stay.

But, with SSR being a new resort, there are a couple of complicating factors. One is you can not use your points until your building is open for occupancy. Maybe that is why your closing date is so far in the future?

Yes UY is March 2005. I called MS yesterday and asked them if I could call next month and make reservations for July 2005. They said no b/c I am not allowed to even make a ressie w/o my closing taking place.

I almost hung up depressed, but after several of you guys on this board said I could still make a ressie just not use my points until after the closing I asked the person @ MS to double check b/c that doesnt seem right. She put me on hold and called her "supervisor". She came back about 5 minutes later and apologized and said that I COULD make a ressie, just not go on the vacation until closing. She apologized again and said, "they seem to always change the rules around here".

So the bottom line is that I thank you guys on the board b/c w/o your info I would have accepted her 1st response and waited until March 05 to make a ressie. Thanks guys
