OK, so we are going in 110 days and we cannot book until we have our down payment which will not be here for another 3-4 weeks. so my question is can I make our ddp adrs before I make our reservations? Im afraid if I wait till February I wont get any of the meals/times I would like to have!!

Yes, you can. ADRs can be booked 180 days out whether you are staying on property or not. If you don't have a WDW confirmation number, you can not use the 180+10 that on site guests can. However, since you are within that 180 days window you can make all of your ADRs now (either online or by phone).

Don't you mean 180+10, or is there some new policy?

One word of caution -- if you do ADRs at places like Akershus or CRT before booking your DDP and thus not linking your hotel package to the dining reservation you will have to provide a credit card and pay in advance for your meal. The only way to avoid not being charged is to link the restaurant reservation to your hotel package reservation that has the dining plan on it.

This is close, but not entirely true. As others have stated, you can book reservations at most places without any vacation package or hotel reservations made yet (even if you're using the dining plan). Some of the more popular / expensive meals such as Akershus and CRT require a credit card, but it is only a guarantee. You will only be charged if you try to cancel the reservations with 48 hours (I think that's the right amount of time) or if you don't show up to your reservation. There are only a few that require upfront payment, the only two I know of being Spirit of Aloha and Hoop-De-Doo Musical Revue. If you already have a package booked and have the dining plan, you can book these shows with your dining credits, but if you don't have the dining plan or don't have your package booked yet, you would have to pay in full for these events.

Some places only require a credit card guarantee other places such as CRT require payment in full. I just double checked through online dining reservations. If I try to reserve CRT it requires a full payment at the time of booking if I do not link to the dining plan. Akershus however does only require a credit card guarantee.

CRT requires full payment even if you have hotel reservations. If you end up using the dining plan they'll credit the $$ back to your card when you dine there and then charge you for the meal plan credits. (side note, we always just pay out of pocket to dine in the castle as we feel it's not worth two TS credits...)

Anyhoo, some places require full payment and some require CC guarantee, but go ahead and make those ADRs, even without your resort reservations. Let us know what you booked! ;)

From what my GF told me. She booked CRT for breakfast yesterday and they took her CC info but did not put a hold on her card. They will only take money if she doesn't cancel and not show up. She did give her hotel confirmation number and told them she was on the dining plan.

Apparently CRT has changed at some point. We booked CRT in May and only had to do a credit card guarantee, but I checked on Disney's site today and it says full payment is required now.
