Hi all,

I am going to book my flights tonight for our January cruise. I can get a 10:30am flight out of Orlando---do you think I could make it? :confused3

I just hate to wait at the airport for three more hours with 3 kids!

Thanks for your advice!

Wow...I would definitely say NO....YOu may in fact make it...But Disney does not reccomend anything before 12 or even 12:30 for valid reasons...We have had 11:30 am flights, and did make it...It really is tough to call..If for any reason you are late getting into port, a long line through security at the airport.

Personally, I would not do it...Is there a later flight? I completely understand your not wanting to wait around...COuld you possibly book it with the understanding that if you do not make it you could be on standby for the next one? or Vice Versa?

Well, since you in NJ, and will be flying in the dead of winter, I am going to officially tell you it is a bad idea.

but, since you are a fellow Northener, I will tell you that Dh and I sailed DCL Dec. 2001 and we had a 12:30PM flight home. Everyone had us concerned that we made a mistake, because DCL does not recommend anything before 1PM. Well, we get to the airport, and had to wait 4 hours! The flight FINALLY took off at 5:30PM.

What was the delay? Oh just ice at Logan Airport. (the planes do round trips, so the plane coming in from Logan was the one taking us home to Logan)

My concern with that early of a flight is DCL does not let you off the ship before 8AM (I believe) So even if you were the very first party off, found your luggage right away, and got right on the road to the airport, it would be a tight squeeze to get you to MCO before 9:30Am to check in for your flight.

And forget it if you are taking Disney transportation, because they will wait for other people.

We had a 10:30 am flight scheduled for this upcoming Feb. 06. We felt confident this would not be a problem for February since we've flown that exact flight before. However, this year Delta/Song pushed the flight back to 10:00 am. Too close for comfort. We called the airline and they courtesy-changed us to the 1:00 pm flight, no charge since it was their bump.

From experience, I now know that if we get to the airport and find out there is an earlier flight available, generally the airline will get you on an earlier flight if they can but leave the luggage on the original flight.

I would not book your 10:30 am flight. Your ship could be late, you could have a problem through customs, long lines wherever you are, etc. Take your time getting off the ship (last bunch of pictures??).

Just my two cents....

I'd rather wait around with 3 kids than miss a flight with 3 kids. Book the later flight.

Thanks guys for your input. I am going to book the later flight. I also have a friend that works for the airline that we are on and she going to try to get me passes for the presidents club. We'll also take our time getting off the ship. :teeth:

I think you made the right decision. Sometimes the ship gets held for customs and people don't even get off until 9:00. The security line at the Orlando airport can be an hour or more long.

I've done 11:30 a.m., but I would be hesitant to do 10:30 a.m. The odds are with you (in 44 cruises, I've only had significant delays in disembarkation three or four times), but with something as important as a flight, it's not something I would risk. If you fly out later, there is a lot to do at the airport (lots of shops, video arcade, restaurants, nice food court, and even a spa!).

DH and I easily made our 10:30am flight back to Boston this past January, but it's not something that I would recommend. We weren't travelling with our kids, kept our luggage with us for disembarking, had a town car service pick us up and the airline had a later flight that we could have been waitlisted for.

If you have a lot of time on your hands, the Hyatt Airport offers day rooms. The kids could do some swimming before the flight.

Thispast November my sister and I had a flight at around 3:30 or something out of Orland to Boston after our cruise. We had 4 kids with us...6,6,4, and 3. They were GREAT! MCO is a great airport for kids. Lots to look at and shops to look in. I would definitly not cut it that close. For my flight this November I had a 12:30 flight booked and I got a call saying that SONG changed it to 11:30, I called and got on a 3 or 4 o'clock flight. I just didn't want to deal with the stress of missing my flight.

Just got back today from the wonder- we were online at 745 am and off the ship by 815am and in Orlando airport and through security by 930am so it is possible but It is alittle too close. We had a flight at 1140 am so we had plenty of time

You should have no problem at all making your flight if you have transportation wiating for you to take you to MCO

Seems that I would need pixie dust to make the 10:30am flight after the cruise so I booked the 12:30 home. I am on Continental- can I check my bags right there at the port? :teeth:

8/25 cruise on the Wonder
Ate breakfast at 7:45

Checked into VWL and was in the MK by 10:30 am

Hope this helps
