but she is going to be short a few pts next year for our trip in May...can I loan/give her the points?

I know its possible but didn't know who often you can do it. My Sister gave us points last year. so are you only allowed to do it once ever or ????

I am curious is a year later she can give me the pts back once she has extra too????

thanks !!

That is called a transfer. You may transfer points to another member once per use year.

In fact, you are limited to one transfer (in or out, not both) per use year.

An alternative would be for you to book a night or two in your sisters name, and link the reservations, so they would be treated by MS as a single reservation.

You are allowed to transfer points once per use year. So as I understand it, if you transferred 07 points from her into your account last year, you should be able to transfer 08 points to her this year.

There is a once per use year policy related to transferring of points. It is not related to the calendar year, but related to the year the points are from or going to.

Clear as mud?:faint:

Chuck, just a quick question, this year two DVC member transfered points to me (I was short for a GV stay) and the reservation went through? am I misinterpriting what your saying?

Was it the same use year, or did you receive transfers for two differnt use years, and have to bank points to use for the reservation? Remember that use years and calendar years are different.

Or did you "rent points" from them? In otherwords, did they make the reservation using their points and put the reservation in your name. If so, that is not considered a transfer.

It could also be that Member Services made an error, or an exception, in allowing two transfers in to your account.

The rule is that there is only one transfer per use year, in or out, not both. So no one should be able to transfer points into their account more than once per use year.

No, not rented, they were both transfers but they did each have different use years! Is that the deciding factor or did MS make a boo boo!

Different use year made the difference, one transfer may have been from a 2007 use year, and another from a 2008 use year.

The best way to do this is to have you make the reservations for some of the nights in your account then link that reservation to their existing reservations. They can return the favor later and you don't have to worry about the transfer issues.

Thanks for the answers guys....Chuck S and Dean...you have good ideas there too....

My Sisters UY is Sept and mine is Feb. She gave me pts from Sept 2007 UY.

I would be transfering pts from my Feb 2009 UY to her Sept 2008 UY if I did the transaction in Oct 2008....right??? because I am out of 2008 pts and would be using Feb 2009 to book May 2009 trip.

she is borrowing 40 pts...thats an odd amt for nights (maybe we will round it to the exact # for nights)...if I just book for her....will she still be in the same room all week since I booked and she booked??? thanks !!!;)

Yes, you can link the reservations, and as long as they are for the same room type/class at the same resort they can be linked and she will not have to move. It really is probably the easiest way. By saying transferred points must be the same use year, I don't think you can transfer 2009 UY points to someone for use in their 2008 UY, you'd need to transfer into her 2009 UY. It gets complicated, and really just making a reservation for her for one or two of her nights is much simpler, especially since you're all family.

If it's the same exact unit type and you link the reservation it's counted as one stay and no changing units. Remember that (as an example) a 2 BR lockoff and 2 BR dedicated are NOT the same unit type.
