We're staying onsite in a few weeks and I have some large Disney gift cards that I would like to "load" onto our magicbands at the start of our stay. Is that possible? We're staying onsite at POR.

Thanks,
Dan

Not that I know of. I would love to be able to do this. Hopefully they add this capability soon!

A lot of people just charge to their room and then pay off at the front desk using the GCs. Be careful though, because once you hit a certain amount or after a couple of days they automatically charge your CC.

You can "load" gift cards onto your magic bands. But you can use your magicband to pay for everything and then go to the front desk at POR and apply your gift cards to your balance. You can do this as many times as you would like.

This is what I usually do because it is easier to keep track of all of your purchases and you don't have to worry about carrying money or gift cards in the park.

Unfortunately, no. Disney would prefer if you overspent on a credit card.
You can periodically pay off your room balance with gift cards at your resort front desk.

You can't front-load with gift cards, but you can pay off the balance on your room tab with gift cards. Just make sure you do it every day or two so the balance doesn't get charged to your on file credit card instead.

Even if they charge your cc you can apply the cc to your balance. For example: on our last day we received our bill on the door. My cc had been charged but my husband found a gift card in his wallet that still had money on it. I went to the front desk and they applied the gift card to the charge and refunded my cc.

Awesome. I didn't know you could do this!

I remember loading cash and Disney Dollars to our room at All Star Sports before, many years ago. But now I just go and pay down our charges every couple of nights.

I wish at some point that they would allow the loading of funds onto each magic band. That would be great to have every person their own spending allowance on their band. Maybe one day.

Thanks all. Anyone know what the trigger dollar amount is before they charge your credit card?

At one point, it was three separate levels for each level of hotel. But. last I heard, Disney had increased the limits to the following (but word to the wise, people have reported that their cards have been run well under these limits):

Values/Moderates: $1500

Deluxe: $2000

At one point, it was three separate levels for each level of hotel.

Thank you! Perfect!

On the cruise, I know you can have them use the gift cards before they charge the credit card. I wouldn't see why the resorts can't do the same thing.

We haven't had them run our card before check out morning on a single trip so I think it's really rare
In think they run them when you get up close to that amount well short of half of your trip
For instance, if you are at Poly for 10 days and on day 3 you hit $1100 they may well run the card then. But if you are on day 9 and at $1800 they won't.

I had hoped to do this last week, but they wouldn't allow me to pay ahead of time. I was told that they wouldn't charge our cc until our balance reached $200 or so (she wasn't sure of an exact amount). So, every other night I went to the desk and paid off our balance with gift cards. I'm glad someone here had given me the heads-up that they might charge periodically (instead of the last day) so I knew not to wait until the last night.

See, I'd just use the giftcards. Seems a whole lot easier to me!

That's what I do.

I would, but I don't want to carry around $1500 in gift cards. I'd rather have them loaded onto my Magicband with the ability to use that to charge (with the PIN number for security). The option mentioned earlier (paying them off at the POR lobby), works for me. I just don't want the limit to be something really low like $200. ONE meal at Disney can easily run our family of five over that amount. (Think Cape May's, 'Ohana, etc...) Hopefully its $1500 as previously mentioned so I don't have to constantly be going to the lobby to pay down our balance.

Again, thanks all for the replies. Very helpful.

You don't have to carry them around. I'm betting 99% of those who use them don't (unless they are off site)
All you need to do is charge to the room and then pay on the room charges with the gift cards.
The point is you can't load anything on a MB. They are passive, no memory on them. All the are is the key to read your account, like a credit card to access a charge account.
The limit at POR was never $200 so no worries about that. They used to be $1000 and were raised last year.
