Can I have two reservations at once?

I currently have an AKL concierge reservation in July (AAA rate), but we've had some unanticipated expenses so are considering switching to a non-concierge room, possibly at a different hotel or even a moderate.

I'd hate to cancel the original ressie in case we are able to keep our original plans but would like to have a back-up option just in case (and also don't want to wait much longer in case I can still get a AAA rate). When I call reservations, they'll know about my existing AKL plans...so will they allow me to make a second reservation?

They have started cracking down on this so I do not recommend doing this any more. They have the authority to go in and cancel one of the reservations if they notice it.

I've been told MANY times that if I have two reservations in the system, one will be cancelled out, and it's usually the reservation that has been there the longest. They assume you changed your mind and cancel the older one. You will receive the deposit back, but WDW will do this without notifying you. You'll either have to make your decision now, or play the wait and see game. WDW has been cracking down on this, so if even if you get to make the second reservation, your first one might gets cancelled without your knowledge.
