can I have some small prayers for my DD's safe return to school tonight?

Hi all, I know this is not a huge, heartwrenching reason to ask for some prayers or pixie dust...

But, my DD went to her BFs parents home for the weekend and they will be returning to school tonight (they are both freshmen at the same college).

I cannot get in touch with her because his parents home is in a very rural area where her cel phone is going directly to voicemail. I am sure she is fine, but I cannot help but worry because they are leaving one rural PA area to get to another rural PA area...and they are both under severe winter weather watches.

Just another mama bear worrying...praying that they either stay put until tommorow or have an angel keeping them safe for the trip to school.

TIA for keeping them in your thoughts.

PAW,
I am saying a prayer for your DD right now. :goodvibes

My DD couldn't make it back to Pitt tonight because all of the streets, including the one she lives on is shut down.

My Dad was down for the game at our house, he lives right around the I-80 corridor and our roads down here were worse than up his way. He made it home with no problem and called to say that we had more snow than he did. (which is very rare!)

It's about 25 miles or so from his house to where your DD's college is, so hopefully she's not running into much snow of the trip back.

Sending my prayers and thoughts your way. I think we all have that mother bear feeling from time to time.

Thanks pam, his family's home is in Tionesta, Pa (north of Clarion) and they are under an advisory until morning...but, the good news is that it is not a super long trip, and hopefully they get back before it gets bad.

LOL, I'll bet the streets in Pgh, and especially Oakland, are CRAZY...but alot of fun too.

Kids-gray hairs...doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the connection.

Sending out prayers from one mom to another :grouphug:

Right now I am blessed to have my sweet little chickadees tucked away safely in the nest, but I dread the day that I will have to let them go. :guilty:

Oh, Mom, I think alot of us understand what you are feeling! Let us know when you hear from her next.....

Been camping at Tionesta several times. My Dad said that my area had more snow - so I am guessing that she'll be okay.

We are under an advisory as well. We had one from last night (Sat.) until tomorrow morning.

My 17.5 yr. had an OA Lodge Banquet on Sat. in Kittanning and then went to all night bowling in Butler. He drives a Mustang. And there's a snow advisory..... Trust me - I'm sporting about 50 new gray hairs! :rotfl: The good news is that the snow didn't hit on Sat. night/Sunday morning as predicted and he was back home safely by 5:40 am.

I am justs so relieved that DD didn't attempt to head back to the Burgh in this snow. Plus I don't think she could have made it back to her apartment....

Thanks Pam, you are making me feel better. LOL, I had to laugh...a Mustang, great for any day but snow.

PAW,
Glad to help! My kids always do this to me - - when I start my Mother act of worrying and asking them to call and let me know they are okay.

Even my Dad did this - - tonight when I made him call me at 11:15 to say that he got home safely.

Yeah - a Mustang! What were we thinking?? :scared1: Actually my DH said, "No way!" when my son saw the car for sale. I said it was his [DS's] money and if that was what he wanted, let him have it. He loves that car - so far he's been very cautious in driving, and if the roads are really bad, he parks it and doesn't risk driving on the snow/ice.

I hope you hear from your DD when she gets back to her dorm. How is that dorm situation now? Any better? Our friends' DD is also a freshman at that college - she's had one switch in roommates (2 other girls in the room) and is not real thrilled with the 2nd one but is making the best of it - her 2nd roommate is a senior, I think.

It is wonderful, she ended up rooming with another Pgh area girl and they are two peas in a pod. They get along great and most importantly, handle disagreements and annoyances really well. They are planning on rooming together again, off campus, in the fall.

The whole roomamate thing can be such a disaster and really affect your college experience, especially for freshmen it seems.

To be honest, it is almost better for a young driver to have a car that is terrible in the snow because you have no choice but to park it. (and one that is their 'baby') An SUV is more likely to give an inexperienced driver a false sense of security in the snow, IMO.

I'm glad it all worked out! :)

DD lucked out and had a single her freshman year - but she absolutely hated living in the dorms. She couldn't handle the constant noise and nonstop partying.

She moved into an apartment with 3 other girls - they each have their own bedrooms. I was shocked - I thought the noise would be worse on a street lined with college kids in apartments - but it really is very quiet. (Don't know what Friday and Saturday nights are like..... ;) )

Just wanted to update that Jess is back at school safe and sound. They decided to come back early this morning instead of driving late last night after the game, which worked out well. I was right, her cell phone was out of range and she never got my messages until she was in range...and then they came flooding in, LOL. They had a great time and she was able to meet his family and their friends and watch the SB. Totally different experience for her, his family owns a resort ranch (ie cows and horses, rodeo), so she sort of felt like the city mouse visiting the country mouse, LOL.

We talked about having better communication 'next time' so that I do not go out of my mind with worry...grr...oh well, I am just happy she is safe.

So glad to hear that your "baby" is safe and sound. :goodvibes :)
