I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about the Plaza Restaurant, for dinner and the Coral Reef Restaurant for lunch. I have the opportunity to change some of my ADR's to these two but I haven't been to either of them.. your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kim

We have been to both and I would prefer The Plaza for lunch. It is mostly a sandwich, etc. place but is very good. We try not to miss it when we are at the Magic Kingdom. I would recommend the Coral Reef for dinner although they do serve lunch as well. Have not been to the Coral Reef for a few years so can't give you an up-do-date review. When we ate there, it was very good. Have fun!:)

Coral Reef was one of our favorite meals of our June trip. We had a noon reservation and were seated immediately. Service was excellent and the food was terrific. My daughter said it's her favorite restaurant ever. :thumbsup2

We are going for lunch in a few weeks. I am glad to hear a good review! Do you mind sharing what your family had to eat?

Thanks!

Thanks for your thoughts and replies, hopefully we will have a great time at both of the restaurants. I checked the menus on allearsnet and they both look like they have a wide variety to please everyone traveling with us.

Thanks,
Kim

I ate at the Coral reef last year for lunch during free dining. I don't remember the exact time, other than it was early (i want to say ~11:30). The timing was great since the restaurant was only about 1/3 full. I really loved the decor, and of course the great view of the aqurium. I had the grilled tilapia which was fantastic, and the chocolate wave for desert which was the best desert of the trip. My girlfriend had the lobster salad, but did not like it at all. It was just completly different from lobster salad up here in maine. Also for the price, all she had was 1 little scoop of if. Didn't matter all that much since she didn't like it (and it was free :rolleyes1 ), but for $20 I would have expected a little more. Bottom line, I'd recommend CR for lunch but say stay away from the lobster salad. :thumbsup2

DH and I both had the Blackened Catfish. The waitress warned us it's spicy, but we like spicy food, so it wasn't too much for us. The cheesey grits were fantastic. I don't normally care for grits, but I could eat these all day long. DS13 had the Lobster Bisque. He loved it so much, he's still talking about it nearly 2 months later. DD9 and DS5 had the kids pizza meal, minus the chicken. I also indulged in a cocktail called Octopus Juice. It's a pina colada with Chambord. Yummy.

Last year I went to Coral Reef for lunch and Plaza for dinner.

Coral reef lunch was fantastic, I loved my meal, the restaurant is amazing, and service was OK.

Plaza... was a different story. Food was just ok (burger was dry), service was... well, she was rather rude (and the hostess was the most rude CM I met during my vacation, ugh!), but the restaurant was pretty. It wasn't bad, but not the most positive experience either.

Upcoming trip: I am trying to get ADRs for Coral reef, since I really would like to eat there again, but don't feel a special need to eat at Plaza, unless we find no other place to eat.

We ate lunch at Coral Reef in May 2007 - the mahi-mahi is excellent, I thought. Our server, Jan, was also top-notch.

Love the Coral Reef. The tilapia was excellent.

The Plaza was, um, a disappointment. It was the only TS we could get before the MVMCP and I doubt we'll be back. Service was terrible and there were very few choices on the menu. Even the kids didn't care for it.

I can't comment on Coral Reef as I have not been there but I loved The Plaza. It has a small menu but we were all very happy with the choices. DD got a PB&J in the shape of Mickey and grapes! It was her favorite meal all week. It was a nice, quiet escape from hot and crowded Main Street. We had a view on Cinderella Castle so I was thrilled:love:

Well, it definitely looks like there is a divided audience out there for the two I asked about but that is almost always the case on The Dis. I chose the Coral Reef because I noticed that a lot of others ADR list included it and we had never been there before. I really hope that it turns out well, we have 5 kids dining with us and one of them is a Nemo fan so I am hoping that the meal and the atmosphere go over well for everyone. The menu also has a lot of choices and most places lunch menus are sort of limited.

As for The Plaza, never been there either and quite honestly I only booked it because it was the only MK table service restaurant that was not already booked on 9/28 during MNSSHP. I really would love to have LTT but there is absolutely no availability. I am not really thrilled about giving up one of my table service meals just to eat a burger, but hey, I really didn't have much of a choice, all the other meals in Mk and all the surrounding resorts have no availability for an early dinner that night. We will survive and I am still keeping my fingers crossed that someone will cancel.

Thanks for your thoughts and comments.

Kim
