Can I do this?

We should be arriving at Disney at around noon and I don't really want to use a day's admission to the park. Is it okay to take transit to the campground and go to the petting farm and campfire. Can I do this from ASM without having to go into a park to get their?

Also can I go to the Whispering Canyon for a meal in the same fashion?

Yep. You could just take the bus from your resort to the Magic Kingdom and get the boat to the Wilderness Lodge or Fort Wilderness campground. (You don't have to go inside the MK, so you don't have to use a ticket day.)

Just an FYI, though. The petting zoo is mostly gone, I think. I believe they still have a few animals, but you can't go in the pens and pet them any more. They do still have pony rides and the stable with all the Disney horses - but you can't pet those. Fort Wilderness is still a fun place to walk around and explore, though!

What I would do is take the bus to MK, then take the monorail and do a monorail resort tour, starting at CR, Poly, GF and then finish again at MK. Then take the boat to WL, have lunch there, tour the place, and then take a 1 mile walk thru the trail to FW. End up at FW, walk around, go to the petting farm, and then take the bus to DTD. Visit DTD, have dinner there, then go back to ASM after dinner.

Or take a boat back to MK, then bus to BC/BWI and tour the area there - have dinner at the Boardwalk or Beaches & Cream, then boat ride to MGM and take a bus back to ASM.

Easily a full day's journey without ever going to the park.

If you do the monorail, ask if you can go up front with the driver. If it is not already full they will let you-up to 4 people(my poor hubby road by himself so our kids and I could go up front) It is a great experience and you get a little card afterwards. Our driver wasn't too chatty but did answer our questions

How many days do you have on your tickets? If its over 4 or 5 days it might be worth it to just add a day to your ticket. The extra days dont cost much. Once you pass 5 days its like 3 dollars to add a day. That way you could go to the parks fro some of the day and not feel like you are wasting a day on your ticket.

We have six days on our pass and are their for seven nights. We're leaving early on our day out and assumed we'de be getting in late on our first night there but I found an early flight. I never quiet realized how big Disney Land was until I joined this board. So I thought instead of making DH phone and add an extra day (he's already phoned four times) I'de try to map out some cool things to do that we probably wouldn't want to take the time to do on a "park" day.

Does anyone know what time the campfire starts?

You can also check out Downtown Disney, and the Boardwalk! Lots to do without using a park ticket! You can get all around WDW on the buses, monorails and boats and it is quite fun!

You might plan to eat at Trails' End cafeteria while at the campground- I have heard it is a good deal for the money - We tried to go there for supper last Sept and for some reason it was closed - maybe because one of the hurricanes hit the day before and they had evacuated the campground- will be trying again in a couple of weeks. We have spent time just seeing how many types of Disney transportation we can take and how many resorts as well as Downtown Disney and the Boardwalk we can check out while doing it. There are certainly many things to do without going into the parks - just hanging out at the resort pool for a few hours is also not a bad idea.

You will be in DisneyWORLD.... not DisneyLAND. Disneyland is in Anaheim, Ca.. WDW is in Florida. Disneyland is not very big....Disneyworld is enormous!!! I am not trying to be mean, I am just trying to educate!!!!
BTW, WCC is a great place for dinner. We loved the food and the antics were great!!!! We went for dinner, not lunch. I have read that it is quieter at lunch!!

take some time to tour Wl also, they used offer guided tours of the hotel that nyone could take( might have to see what timefrom the deskunless someone on here knows) .we haven't stayed at FW for a few years but they also had a nice nature trail to the left of dock( as you are looking at the lake from trails' end). and the gift shops there have some outdoorsy souvies i haven't seen other places( got this cute moose character once there)

We always do a -tour day- without going to the parks. It is on arrival day, we usually check in early, then hop on the bus/monorail, and tour the hotels on the monorail, have lunch somewhere, then tour other area's. It is great fun, and we enjoy all the photo op's. We usually buy souvenirs on this day as well, they will take them back to your room, so you don't have to lug them around, and it's really fun looking at all of it when you get back to your room!!! We usually do chef mickey's on the first night....... it's like tradition now...... and gets everyone in the spirit!!!

It sounds like a week is definatly not going to be long enough.

Yes it's WDW that I'm going to not DL . Good thing I still have almost five months left to prepare. It's also I good thing I came on this board. Everyone here has been so helpful and full of knowledge. Dh and I have never been to WDW and neither has anyone that we know very well so we really have no idea what to expect.

WDW thats where you want to be not DL . Have a great trip and stop by WL WCC grate food. Walk the board walk at BW & go to B&C for some icecream. 2 weeks is more like it. Try to see all the firework shows thay are great. Don't miss Spectro!!! a must see for the first time.

Well, no matter what, you will have a wonderful time. You have plenty of time to decide what you'd "like" to do!!!! I alway enjoy touring the resorts, they are gorgeous, and fun to explore. You can also try out some of the restaurants that are not in the park that way........ I mean you can either way, but it's fun to do regardless. On occassion we've gone to Beaches and Cream for lunch.......... ahh, it's sooo good, and the kitchen sink, well, it's amazing, then we tour around the Y/B club, and go to the boardwalk......... it's really fun.

I'd say at least incorporate the monorail resorts to tour, the GF/ Poly are my favs. We usually go over to the chapel, it's so beautiful, and the photo op there is fabulous........ make sure there is not a wedding going on...... lol, and we love to walk around the grounds of the poly......... beautiful.
