Can only do a week at the World in one stretch and am wondering is it possible to see Christmas still set up and do the marathon.

Doesn't matter if the race is at the start or end of the vacation.

If you vacation the week before the race you will have a better chance of seeing Christmas decorations at the parks and resorts. There were still some decorations up when I ran the 2012 marathon. Wilderness lodge decor was all down. But I think MK still had main st decorated. It was a bit of a blur but I think I saw decorations!

Hi just a thought here- doing the week before the marathon means you will be eating WDW food- vacation style-for a week before running 26.2 miles.I don't know your goals for this race but it is always something I tried to stay away from, the laziness of vacation before a race.

Either way have fun and good luck

That's also my concern as I am thinking of doing Dopey so 5k, 10k, 13.1M and 26.2M so yeah food is an issue.

May just have to do 2 trips in 2 different years. That would be horrible:rotfl2:

We arrived the Friday of marathon weekend 2010 (inspired me to start running!) and here's what Main Street looked like:

Later that week, we saw cranes around the castle taking lights down. It was pretty neat.

FTR, we stayed the Friday before the half to the Friday after (Jan 8-15)... It was like walking down 2 different Main Streets. We stayed at WL, and all the Christmas decor at the hotel was already down when we arrived.

If I could do a longer trip around a race, personally I would make the *trip* part come after the race...so race day(s) followed by park-only days, and not the other way around. The food for me would be an issue, but more than that I'd have trouble staying off my feet before the races.

In 2012 the decorations were still up during marathon weekend, but the marathon itself was on January 7: the first Saturday in January. This year they were not up (marathon was January 13, second Saturday in January). My guess is that they won't be up during the weekend itself in 2014 or 2015.

This year the only decorations I saw still up were the lights on the castle but that was probably my favorite sight of the whole race (except maybe the finish line with the medals!). I wasn't expecting it at all when we turned onto Main Street so it was an awesome surprise. I hope at least the lights are up this year but I'm also running Wine & Dine so I'm hoping to see the beginning of the decorations then.
