Can I convert a regular reservation to a DVC reservation

I am currently awaiting ROFR on my first contract and want to start taking advantage of my points immediately. Can I make a regular reservation now and then once my points become available to me convert it to a DVC reservation?

cash (CRO) and DVC are completely different silos of rooms and cannot be interchanged.

Thanks! Newbie figuring things out. I expect to close between mid to late March. I was hoping to get a studio at either Poly, GF or BLT for a Sunday to Thursday stay from Sept 19-24. I expect things to be booked solid for that week by the time I get my points. Oh well, I'll find someplace!

Think of it as two completely different companies sharing the resort with no overlap of rooms.

DVC has some limited ability to move rooms from DVC to CRO in order to better manage inventory but that’s not meant for your advantage:

1. DVC can move rooms for which it has points at the 11 month window from DVC to CRO. And DVC itself owns tons of points.

2. DVC can move any room from DVC to CRO to sell at less than 2 months. This is referred to as breakage if you want to look it up. In both cases, rooms are moved from DVC to CRO. It’s a one-way door. Once DVC has the ability to make money on a room, they don’t go back to releasing that room for points.

interesting side note: DVC has made a deal with you: in exchange for a guarantee that you won’t have to make up a difference between the budget and actual dues payments received, DVC doesn’t have to pay dues on its points. So. As long as they get their budget correct, DVC’s points are dues free.

GF is hard to get studios at 7 months all year round pretty much. PVB and BLT studios disappear pretty fast at 7 months. Which resort do are you going to own? You might have to book a room at SSR, OKW or AKV the do a waitlist are PVB or BLT when you get your points. Good luck and Welcome home.

No, you can't convert (as all of the others have already posted).

My advice is to make a cash reservation that can be cancelled. Once you get your points, check to see if you can get a DVC villas for the resort and dates you prefer. If yes, you can cancel the cash reservation. If not, you can decide how important it is to keep the cash reservation and just use your points in the future. Another option would be to rent your points and use the proceeds to pay for the cash reservation. Good luck!
