Can I comfortably take little ones to Artist Point?

We've never been to this restaurant before, and would love to give it a try during our upcoming trip this fall.

We have two teens (no problem) but also 2 little ones who will be 15 months old and 36 months old.

I know that Artist Point is a Signature Dining restaurant with a bit of an upscale feel to it. I'm wondering if it would be appropriate and comfortable to take our family there. I was thinking that if we got an early seating (5 pm?) that it might be ok.

I am sensitive to the fact that there are some restaurants, even at WDW, at which is it probably best to not have little ones. If this is the case at AP, we will just ask the teens to babysit for us and have a parent's night out.

But if there will be many families with children young enough for high chairs at Artist Point, then will we happily take the whole family, get a very early seating, and be as considerate as possible to the other guests there.

Any advice or input would be most appreciated. :)

We will be staying here (WL) for 3 nights and I was wondering the same thing...

I am also in the same boat-just made an ADR for Artist Point-that includes the kids-ages 6 and 3. DH and I ate there before by ourselves and LOVED it! But I'm wondering if I need to book Kidsniteout that eve.

You will be fine brining your little ones to Artist Point. We've been going since my youngest was 3.

i took a 3yo and a 18mo old and they were fine. they like chips and salsa so the we asked the waiter to bring us some (he went next door to WCC and got them) and they were fine. they didn't bother anybody.

(yes i know this contradicts another post, cause the other post on the other thread was a joke.)

as to also wondering about this. We have reservations there next week and plan on bringing our 6 year old. We had originally had plans at the Yachtsman but changed them to the Artist Point. We're going to Universal and coming back to the Lodge to change so figured why not eat here at their Signature Dining. I've never eaten at either one so I'm really looking forward to it.

I would agree that the 5PM seating would be good. It is early enough that the kitchen will not be backed up because it is the first time slots available.

I have seen many children in the restaurant well into 7:30-8:30-9 PM mark and they are cranky and tired. Heck I am tired at 7 PM after getting up around 6:45 AM.

P.S. They have a board where they place all of the artwork from the children each night. The kids get crayons when they sit down-so do not worry about feeling uncomfortable here. ;)

Oh yeah-the buffalo strip with onion marmelade, cedar plank salmon, and berry cobbler are awesome.

Well I wouldn't because I am too cheap. But before we had the last 2 we did take the first 2 with us there and it was great. We did just what you are saying- 5PM diner. We were in and out by 6 and before it got very crowded. Now there were not a ton of kids. But as long as they behave, I don't see why not.
Have fun and you are waaaaay braver than I am. My 5 year old and soon to be 3 year old are why we are steering clear of the nicer places. They did fine at Narcossee's but it was exhausting for me- I was like Houdini pulling things out of my purse to entertain.

They are your kids so you know the best but if they are well behaved I don't see why you would have any issues. You already mentioned that you will be sensitive to others around you so that is really all anyone can ask. The 5:00 seating will help too.

The question is will you enjoy yourself if you bring them. If you have a ready to go babysitter it might make the meal more enjoyable to dine w/o the little ones but I don't think anyone will give 2 well behaved kids a second glance.

Enjoy,
B.

it depends on you as a parent. If your child starts to get restless and loud or disruptive, will you sit there and just tell the child to be quiet, or will you remove them?

At some point, if you child is not behaving, you have to remove them, plain and simple. If the behave, you will be fine.

We took our daughter there starting at 2.5 years old and she was fine. the Cm are so nice. they give crayons and coloring pages to keep them occupied.

We took our kids, then 5 &2 y/o, two years ago and by the time we got our entrees (~8:00) they had had it. Our server was fabulous - hung up DS's picture on the wall making a big deal of it, chatted with DD, got the check to us ASAP. The food was fantastic but we passed on dessert. Luckily we were staying at WL and brought the kids right up to bed ~8:30. Be ready for anything (bring quiet toys, blankets, books, etc.), go early but don't feel you have to miss out on fine dining just because you have little ones in tow. Enjoy!

We went last month with our DD5 and didn't feel out of place at all, although I don't think I would have felt as comfortable had she have been having an "off" day

Here's a photo of the display board and kids desert.

Thanks to everybody who replied!

It sounds like we should be fine if we get an early seating, make sure the kids have a nap that day, and are sensitive to any obnoxious behavior.

Babyboo, you know what they say about a picture being worth a thousand words! It seems obvious to me that the restaurant certainly anticipates young children. (Cute daughter, by the way!)

I just wanted to make sure that we wouldn't feel terribly out of place with young ones (as we would, for instance, at V&A's - and deservedly so). I appreciate your input! :thumbsup2

Thank you.

Artist Point along with the Yatchsman seemed to us to be the most welcoming of all the signature restaurants (not that the others wern't) with the kids.

Enjoy you meal.

I think we're going to put our little ones in the Cubs Den while we eat here. They're 10 and 8. The 10 year old would enjoy it (she can eat her body weight in steak), the 8 year old not so much. It will be a nice break away from the kids for a couple hours. They can have their fun and so can we.

But I do appreciate the pic of the artists board. If Cubs Den doesn't work out, I'll feel less apprehensive about having them there.
