I found a good deal on a non-stop flight to MCO and I want to purchase tickets for 4 family members (2 are a gift) to fly in October. One family member may not be able go, but will not know until July. Another person will take her place if she has to pull out.
Does anyone know if I can go ahead and get the tickets, then change the name on one at a later time?
Someone at work said she didn't think it could be done.
Help! Thank you! :wave2:

I don't know about all airlines, but I know when someone bought a ticket for my spouse's DS to come visit over Christmas, they put their own name on the ticket. When we tried to board him to go back home, they would not accept it and would not allow us to change it. I had to buy a whole new ticket for over $400 :badpc: . I was not pleased.

Most airlines will not allow you to change it. From what I've heard, Southwest is more liberal.

I don't believe any airline will let you change the name on a ticket. I know that Southwest will not, and tells you to check the name to be sure it's correct when you're booking your ticket online.

Doesn't SW allow you to cancel the ticket and reapply the money towards someone elses? I know USAir will only allow you to use the credit for the same name.

Yes, but you may not be able to get the discounted fare that was used for the original ticket purchase... but its still a better option than losing the money all together.
