Can I change my ticket if I need to?

I’m a little confused. We haven’t been to Disney World since the ticket changes. We are purchasing them this week for our FP date (staying at swan). If for some reason we don’t end up going on our trip what happens to them, since they are being purchased for that date? I know they aren’t refundable but can we use them for a future trip (and pay the price difference if there is one)? If that’s a possibility, does it matter if we buy the tickets through Disney or Undercover Tourist?

1. Yes. You would need to "adjust" them to the date that you will actually be using them.
2. Doesn't matter.
Another option is to pay more to buy a ticket that is not "date-specific."
