Title says it all. Snorkel gear rental is pricey and I can buy it cheaper and have it for the future.

ETA: My kids have boogie boards and that we used at the beach on our last cruise. Can they bring those and use them at Castaway Cay?

You can bring your own snorkel gear no problem

You can but if you go in the snorkel area you have to be wearing one of the yellow vests. They're free and available from the snorkel rentals or the lifeguard stand! :)

As noted, you can bring your own snorkel gear. But you must wear the supplied flotation life vests when snorkeling at Castaway Cay.

Boogie boards - This is from the DCL website:
Q.What items are prohibited on board the ship and on Castaway Cay?

A.In order to maintain a safe and secure environment for all Guests and crew, the following items are prohibited on board Disney Cruise Line ships. If found, the items listed, and anything similar, will be held in storage for the duration of the cruise. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Items prohibited on board ship and on Castaway Cay.

  • Kites, balloons, surfboards, wave boards, inflatable floats, pool noodles, inflatable pools and wagons

So, I'd say the answer is "no".

Awesome! I found a great deal on snorkel gear and didn't really want to spend $30 a person to rent. Also, I agree on the ick factor.

If you have one from home, you can wear that. Its mandatory to wear one, but you don't have to wear DCLs if you ave your own snorkel vest.

When my DD is planning to snorkel on our trip, she always brings her own gear. It's less expensive and usually much better gear than the rental.
She really enjoyed snorkeling at Castaway Cay looking for the sunken Mickey and treasures. Have fun.pooh:

DH wants to snorkel, but does not swim very well, and seems to sink right to the bottom. LOL Do those flotation devices keep you afloat on top of the water? Also, my niece and nephew will more than likely need something that keeps them "on top" of the water.

The vests are inflatable. You fill them up to the level you need for comfort. Whether that means floating on top of the water, or just slightly under.

I've found them to be very good for floating.

We brought our own masks and snorkels- didn't bother bringing fins and didn't need them
