Can i book a restaurant for 2 but take a third person along

Hello: If I cannot get a restaurant reservation for three, but there is an opening for 2 can i book that and take a third person with me without a reservation for three. Or do I need to be exact and wait for an opening for three.

You want to get a reservation for 3. (Or 4, since there are very few 3-top tables in restaurants, so you'd most likely be using a 4-top anyway.)

Most restaurants will try to accommodate "extra" people, but there's no guarantee, especially at very popular places that book up quickly.

The capacity of a restaurant is determined by the fire code so showing up with someone extra is not a good idea.

While castmembers do their best to seat extra people, you should have a reservation that includes everyone to ensure that you will all be seated. Going from 2 to 3 you would need a larger sized table (a 3 or 4 top instead of a 2 top).

Keep checking online to see if a table for a party of 3 or 4 opens up. If you find a table for 4 as long as at least one person shows up for the reservation you will not be charged for the "missing" person. You can also subscribe to the cancellation thread for your month that is at the top of this board.

Only show up at a restaurant with an extra person with the understanding that one person in your group might be turned away and will have to go elsewhere to eat.
