Actually looking at the picture again I see that there were three people behind me who dropped out.

I tried really hard to, I walked this 5K in 36:00 a 12 min pace and was still last. Today I'm a few min a mile faster so I'll be doing this race again in July.

I'm raceing a 5K on the 31st of this month so I'll see where I'm at. I hope to walk a 5K this year under 30 min. (And Pigs would fly if they had wings)

Wow Dave! A 12 min pace and last? I'd be wayyy behind that Police car then. How fun to compare then to now and realizing the ups and downs of this lifetime ride. It's all good.

You're even faster now! I'm quite impressed that anyone can walk so fast.
:worship:

Now wait a minute! I can't even run at a 12 min pace. :rotfl2:

Way to go, Dave!

Holy cow! I can't believe that 12min pace would be last! That's an amazing walking pace!:thumbsup2

That's what happens when you pick a race to be your first as a walker and find out it's just local high school and WKU cross country runners and the local running club.

There was a seperate walk race but no other racewalkers so I thought I'd just race the 5K with the runners. I almost caught one of runners at the end.

I did another walk race about two months later and had an 11:21 pace and third place. It was a walk race.

Click on 2 mile walk overall and I'm 3rd. Erica was doing her first walk race here also, she was 19th out of 104, she is a bunch faster now.

We did 10 miles today of LSD, with lots of hills and a wind, in 2:10 with an average pace of 13:04.

But I have paid my dues, being a DLF.

Geez, Dave, you leave us all shamed by your times!! You should be very proud of that result! Way to go.:thumbsup2

Martha, coming in last puts things in perspective. I was a runner for 30 years, usually about the front of the middle of the pack. When an injury caused me to become a walker instead of a runner I had a good dose of humility right off the bat. Not a lesson I'll forget. It keeps me training hard, because I don't wanna be last again. Coming in last with the police car on your butt so everyone knows you are last, sucks.

Dave:)

You know what, Dave? DLF at that pace is NOTHING to sneeze at! I am so impressed that you did that back then and to think that you are even faster now. You are amazing, my friend! :cool1: :cheer2: :yay:

Thank you Cam. That was a very nice thing to say. You guys are wonderful at keeping each other motivated.

Dave:)

Walking at a 12-minute pace is simply AMAZING in my opinion! Nothing to be ashamed of at all.

Of course, we all have to have dreams. :goodvibes

I went into racewalking because I was nursing an injured achillies tendon and couldn't train as a runner any more. The racewalking turned out to be a good match for me. I was never a good runner, mid pack was my turf.

"There is a saying that hard work will beat talent if talent doesn't work hard". I'm testing that, I'm not a gifted athlete but I'm willing to work hard. I'm 55 years old and have a dream that if I train hard enouth and smart enouth that I can be world class in Senior racing. I never had a chance at that when I was younger but now I have been given a shot.

I wake everyday determined and positive, if I don't make it, I can at least say I gave it full measure.

Dave:)

That's great Dave!!!! I've never heard that saying, but I wish several other runners that I ran with in HS had. The ones with the most natural talent were also teh ones that cut the trails short and encouraged others to do so.

Good luck! Keep up the hard work!

WOW Dave! I ran my 1st marathon with a 12 MPM pace....so walking that fast is AWESOME!
YOU ROCK!

Dave
12mpm walking is a smoking pace....great pics too!
I checked out some of the other pics and the very next pic after the one with you, the police car, and the two kids show just the two kids and the one in the grey shirt looks like he's saying something out of the corner of his mouth....must be something like "Yo...Dude.."(you know, kids do talk like that)"we are getting soooo smoked by that guy in the blue and white tank!"
Awesome job!
