Can I bank points from a cancelled reservation?

Hi,

Im looking to book California at the 7 month window for 7 days next April, but I may then want to cancel 3 of these days. I will know for certain well before the 30 day mark.

The points I will be using to make this booking will all be from the current UY, so will I still be able to bank the points that are returned from the part cancelled booking ?

With any cancellation, the points will be returned to your account in some fashion. As long as it is 31 days or more before, they will be returned as regular points which may be banked - based on the banking deadline for your Use Year.

As long as you cancel 31 days or more and are still inside the 8th month of your Use Year you will be able to bank the points (providing they had not already been banked or borrowed previously).

I recently cancelled 4 of 7 nights at OKW for October using current year points, they were returned to my account as normal. I then used them for a March trip at BLT (April use year). I still have 9 left over, which I will bank.

This all works if you are using the points at the Villas in California, if you are booking a hotel room the rules are different, since the points have become reservation points and can not be banked.

Just added this since you said use your points in California and not at specific hotel or the Villas.
